What Would You Do, Get Off For Me...
I wouldn't feel comfortable on a bus, with a passenger playing Koran prayer music on speaker, I would get off, considering what's happened in the past, on public transport.

If he's having a last-minute listen before he pulls the rip-cord - yes.

Baldric - odd as it may seem, Muslims ride on buses every day, and have done as long as buses have been around.
It doesn't mean they are all bomb-carrying terrorists. \\\
That wouldn't reassure me.......... //
Then by all means avoid public transport - but if you do so because you are 'terrorised', then terrorism is working.

Well, terrorists do tend to psyche themselves up this way so I would be a little concerned. If he was doing that in my place of work I would certainly be telling him to turn it off. I was sitting next to a weirdo on the tube yesterday who was muttering agitatedly to himself - I noticed he didn`t have any baggage but it did cross my mind that he might be psyching himself up for something. We were relieved when he suddenly decided to get off.
bhg....13:54....with respect, how would you know if it was the Koran or not ?
If it was The Messiah, or perhaps St Johns Passion, ( my favourite Bach )
I might have a chance at recognising it, but not sure I could say the same if it were in Arabic.
But what I am still not sure of is why did the driver refuse to proceed, AFTER the chap had switched the music off ?

mikey - I don't think I would recognise the Koran as such. What I was trying to say was that if someone were behaving in a "strange" manner and listening to something in what sounded to me to be a middle-eastern language I might start to get concerned. Getting off the bus would be an option I'd give serious consideration to.
/// The evidence is there - the driver asked the passenger to stop his music, and the passenger complied. Things only escalated when the driver made it clear that he had an issue with the religious content of the music, and that is unacceptable because the driver does not get to choose the music his passengers wish to

No the evidence is not there, no where in the article does it state that the driver had an issue with the religious content of the music.
What he did have an issue with was the playing of load music, the passenger accused the driver of being racist, as he was listening to the Koran.
With that accusation on top of playing loud music on his bus, the driver was perfectly within his rights to order the trouble maker off his bus.

/// It's a wonder I'm alive the amount of cab journeys I had taken that included the driver praying en route. ///
Would that be whist driving or stopping to pray while you are waiting to be delivered at your destination.
Choose another cab company, and no that is not being racist, just expecting a service which you have paid for.
What would you say if a Christian driver stopped outside a church and ask you to wait a minute or two while he pops into the church to do a little praying.

I do have customers praying in my place of work (Muslims and Jews) and that is perfectly OK by me. The difference is when people behave suspiciously or oddly - that`s what you have to look out for and that comes with experience. I don`t know why the driver threw the guy off the bus but then I wasn`t there.
Prudie....you are overreacting.....why would it be a problem after the music was turned off ?
London has 1000's of buses every day, and there will be a lot of Muslims on them, along with every other race and religion on earth.
If people overreract like you say you would have done, then they would never go anywhere by public transport ever again, and the Terrorists would have won. London would grind to a halt !

Whilst driving, if any driver wanted to stop off at a place of worship I would insist they took me to my destination first.
I am more than happy with the cab firms I use.
I also understand the nervousness of those who have been entangled in previous horrors, I only speak for myself and as stated we only have the report to go on.
If there was more to it, then a lot of what we say counts for naught.
