//The new US president is expected to sign several executive orders regarding immigration and border security over the next few days.

They are likely to include the "extreme vetting" of people coming from seven predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East and Africa.

This would restrict refugee access.//

The initial costs will be borne by the US government and then it will be recouped from the Mexicans, who will pay for it incrementally through increased tariffs and tolls.
Sounds like a good plan to me.
Those saying it is impossible, obviously have no experience of just how "Can do" the USA is; - it's not like England over there!
The project will be known as Longitudinal Extensional Group Operation (Lego) & will not take long to build.
Great link Susan :-)
anne - he is just a big, spoiled brat anyway

anneasquith, // Will Mexican labour be employed to build the wall ? //

I imagine immigrants who are in the US legally could be involved. It's the illegals he's trying to keep out.
Mexico won't be. paying for the wall, who will ?

I am not at all surprised he has started on things.

He is a businessman an as such I daresay he has had plans for some time. He wont pontificate like career politicians because he does not have to worrry about a long term future in politics to put champagne on the table.
In order for the USA government to pay for the wall. Will Trump be require to go to congress/senate to get the massive funds ?
Well he's living up to his promise to increase employment. It's going to take 1,000s of new workers to patrol his 2,000 mile wall and do all that 'extreme vetting'!
Ladder and shovel technology will defeat the wall.
Trump has 1460 days as President.
The border is 1900 long.
So even if they completed a mile per day, the wall will still not be completed by the time he leaves.

They could built it smaller to finish it within his Presidency, but 'Trump's Kerb' doesn't sound very impressive.
Randy. Can you expand you're solution .;-)
Eddie, i think you will find there is already 700 miles completed.

A wall also does not have to be bricks and mortar. It would be easier to setup electronic detectors/camera's etc.
I seem to recall in Texas they already use such a system for weekend hunting trips for 'bad hombres' coming over the border. If i remember correctly it was $1500 for a weekend 'entertainment'.

So they could leverage of that for starters.
Blimey, I wish our politicians had such a backbone !
I seem to remember reading that at least one tunnel already exists
Concerning President Trump's suitability for office, much has been stated on here and the media to denigrate his character and are mightily suspicious of his capabilities and intentions.

Such condemnation, as I have opined earlier, was illogical and nonsensical given that he hadn't even taken office.

As Naomi24 has mentioned, DT has already rolled uo his sleeves and getting down to business. He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. In the same way that mass demonstrations have taken place against him for a number of spurious and unproven reasons, he is now being attacked on another pledge, that of building the wall.

Yet again we see doubting Thomas's who are quick to lambast him over whether it will even be built either its because of the practicalities and logistics of doing so, the cost or the timescale.

His vetting policy is also being challenged. In this cynical world regarding the integrity of politicians at home and abroad, now and again someone comes along and upsets the applecart.

President Trump is going to surprise a whole host of people nationally and internationally and for the right reasons.

Should we be so surprised? I would be more concerned that there will be insufficient humble pie to go round.

putting crap ideas into action ...

Doesnt the Land of the Free have a defended border with Mehico ?

or is it true - that you just walk across the Rio Grande ( rather than run a gauntlet in Cuidad Juarez or Tijuana ) ? - Oh the canadians are looking forward to a closed border as well ( hasnt been defended since 1820)
