(Sorry originally posted in the wrong Trump thread, not that there are a lot to choose from!) What that article also reflects rather starkly is the easy ride, in fact, which Trump and his administration has to date had from the press generally.
The last paragraph is particular is worth reflecting on (the bit before the Scorsese piece that is)
There was a rather dispiriting "debate" on a British news channel the other day (Channel 4 I think) about fake news. As a sort of "alternative voice" they had dredged up some blogger from the US who tried to claim that there was no such thing as "fake news" - just degrees of spin, and that after all everyone "does it".
That is precisely the sort of attitude that the liars thrive off: there's a favourite quote of Orwell's from William Blake:
"A truth that's told with bad intent Beats all the lies you can invent"
Sums it up rather scarily I think
Jackdaw...my intention was not to "have a pop at Trump" as you say,but rather to present one observers opinion. No need for you to have a pop at those who hold differing opinions.
I really wish that Hillary had won. There would be no more bombing with impunity in the Middle East, no more kicking out of illegal aliens aka Hispanics. The African Americans would be happy as Larry just like they used to be in 2016 when racial tension didn't exist, the Russians would know their place and stop being so aggressive.
It would have been wonderful ... So great, it would have been great folks, so great.
The fact is that Trump didn't take over a utopia, he inherited a complete mess.
Of course he could easily make thing worse but don't kid yourself that everything would be rosey if Hillary had succeeded in taking the prize, a prize she saw as her divine right.
She cares for the man in the street just as much as Trump does ... Not a lot.
Talbot....nobody is suggesting that Hilary would have been the ideal choice. But Trump is now in the White House and he is showing an incompetence that few would have believed possible before his narrow victory.
Defend Trump if you like but, but saying that the alternative may have been worse weakens your case.
The clearest and most eloquent expression yet of just what the 'Trump Era' means for the USA and therefor the 'Western World'.
Reinforces my contention that Trump is at least deranged & delusional if not actually insane!
But American Presidents can't be put out of power, by a vote of no confidence, as we can over here, They are stuck with him for another 3 and a bit years.
I'm not sure they could be "fully aware of what they were getting" with a man who had no previous experience in either politics, government or diplomacy.
