What Did You Do

that your parents told you under no circumstances to do?
On Saturday I needed my insulin so nipped to the bathroom at McDonalds before catching my train home. The lock on the door was a bit dodgy, and I thought what will I do if I can't get out?
It took me back to when I was 5 at the Washington Services on the motorway. I wanted to be a big girl and use the loo on my own to which my mum agreed but I was NOT to lock the door...what did I do? I locked the door and couldn't unlock it, cue my mum trying to convince me to crawl under the door which I eventually did and was surrounded by at least half a dozen other women and my mum giving me a cuddle while I imagine trying to not be mad for doing what she told me not to do.

Washington Services? God, that takes me back to 1972. Fresh up at Durham University my mate, who had a clapped-out old Mini, and I had been out on the hoy. At chucking-out time we decided we were both hungry. Everywhere was closed so he suggested we drive up to Washington Services, which we duly did. We had sausage, chips and peas which were vile and very over-priced. As he had no cigarettes left he went to the vending machine. He put his last 50p in but it was the wrong machine and he came back with a packet of multi-coloured condoms.
My mother told me never to look at the saucy postcards at the seaside - but I did . . .
