Funny how nobody thought those who wouldn't bake a gay cake or accept a gay couple in their guest house should be "educated" rather than prosecuted. The full force of the law had to be brought to bear. Yet female mutilation must be more serious than hurting someone's feelings. Mustn't it.

Looks like the police have now back-tracked.

The tweet is correct, prosecuting/Jailing is unlikely to benefit the child.
But jailing a mugger, rapist, armed robber is unlikely to benefit the victim either. It does not mean there should be no prosecutions.
The police may have back tracked on the tweets because of the bad publicity, but they haven't bothered to answer the question and explain - why there have been no prosecutions?

hmm interesting
altho in the good old days the police decided whether to prosecute
it is now the function of the CPS - and blah blah blah it is a two pronged process not involving a dcision about whether or not to imprison parents or not
BUT
whether there is a reasonable chance of conviction
and if it is in the public interest to prosecute
perhaps the crime commissioner has pointed this out to them
and here we have a prosecution for FGM

this is all a bit Trumpo and alternative facts - isnt it ?

agreed Gromit - complete non sequitur
[so you dont prosecute a thief who has spent all the money he stole but it is unlikely to lead to restitution for the victim]
dont prosecute anyone for arson - after all what is burnt down is burnt down and the arsonist is unlikely to rebuild it himself ...... o mi god
