Funny how nobody thought those who wouldn't bake a gay cake or accept a gay couple in their guest house should be "educated" rather than prosecuted. The full force of the law had to be brought to bear. Yet female mutilation must be more serious than hurting someone's feelings. Mustn't it.

Every airport should have a matron with powers to inspect any child being taken abroad, especially if going to any of the countries where cutting is part of the way of life. This matron is to check the condition of each child on her way out and her way back. This happens in Sweden - no reason it can't happen here. That really discourages parents, since they know any cutting will be discovered, resulting in huge fines and/or imprisonment.
The case that Talbot linked to has been discussed previously. The patient had been a victim of FGM and after giving birth the surgeon repaired her as best he could. Hence, he wasn’t guilty of FGM. FGM is a sickening practice largely ignored, in my opinion, because criticism of ethnic minorities is frowned upon.
