under the vivisection act 1877 ( as was - there is a complete shiny new act now - I cant keep up with current legislation ) vets were allowed to treat humans ( as animals )
but m-beeze ( doctors in this context ) were NOT allowed to treat anyone besides H Sapiens
einthoven ( who evry fule kno invented the ECG ) demonstrated it in London on a DOG ( yes a darg ) and caused an outcry - hence vivisection act
the dogs name was Buster

there is even a photie of Buster being tortured by the mad scientists. ( paws in four jars of electrolyte )
not only doctors can prescribe
vets and dentists can
and so and so
you would expect bad men to employ vets to treat them
( I thought they would use retired doctors not on the register )
legislation is that any stab victim presenting to hospital then the police have to be informed
( same with terrorism and explosives -but NOT child abuse ( official doing child abuse in that hospital must be informed ) )
Now in the Argentine during their troubles ( sheila cassidy and all that ) it was a criminal offence to treat someone without a licence and also a crime to run a clandestine unlicensed clinic or hospital
( lots of terroristen who didnt go to the govt hospitals )

when I attended a harrowing farrowing in the late seventies ( sow in labour )
the vet my contemporary at uni asked the farmer specifically if I could examine the animal under his supervision.
we pulled out five dead piglets ....
and so it came up that a vet can treat a human .....
[ I also held a home office licence to experiment on lab rats at porton down in 1968 under the old legislation.]
the famous story about Buster and Einghoven came later

// vulcan42 Ethically it's wrong, //
ethically - bullocks
it required legislation - ( primary - none of this stroke of the minister's pen crap and "look I have changed the law" )
the doctors were strongly saying that confidentiality prohibited blah blah blah
basically that A+Es were NOT the first stop to the Cop Shop for any section of the population
and that seriously stabbed people would not seek medical help OR would seek from inappropriate care givers ( in this case vets )
in the good old days of illegal abortion
doctors were NOT required to give the names and addresses of women dying from septic abortion to the police ( so they could be prosecuted if they survived for having had a back street abortion )
