Unless you've been teeth arms in a combat zone I doubt you'd have the foggiest..... //
No need to doubt it - I freely admit I have no idea, that is why I was very careful to phrase my post to reflect that - if you re-read it, you will see that I state quite clearly that I have no idea what combat feels like - so why would you then suggest that I don't know, when I stated that very clearly?

andy-hughes to ChillDoubt, //Do you imagine that jihadists wake up one morning and decide to go and chop the heads off a few innocent civilians?//
No. Those who are born Muslim don’t believe those people are innocent and are raised trusting that it’s acceptable to kill them because their literature tells them it is. Converts are brainwashed to believe likewise.

I appreciate that your default position is to believe that Muslims are all 'born to hate' non-Muslims, and see them as legitimate targets for murder without regret - but how do you explain the infintessimle number of Jihadists who actually carry out such actions?
I believe, and have always stated, that murderers under the guise of religious teachings are simply murderers who elevate themselves with nonsense they read in books to justify their psychopathy.
The minute percentage of murderers claiming Islam as their reason does rather bear out my argument, and not yours.

If the enemy do not abide by the rules of the Geneva convention then why should we, we are fighting the enemy with our hands tied behind our back, fight fire with fire I say.
Imagine what would have have happened if Sgt Blackman was lying injured on the floor, what do the think the insurgent would have done.
A you tube video a big black flag as a backdrop and a big knife?
Dave.

I heard a fascinating piece on Radio Four on the way home, from an anthropologist who has trained as a marine, and been to Afghanistan with them many times.
He explained the tribal bond of Marines, the way they fight inside enemy lines, and the demands on their physical and mental powers, sometimes up to - as he believes this time - beyond breaking point.
That was backed up by quotes from other Marines in that battle, and they all took the approach that the dead Taliban fighter meant there was less risk to them, and less chance of fatalities for their group.
As I have said before, I cannot begin to speak from anything resembling understanding of what that situation felt like, and I have always had every sympathy for Sergeant Blackman - but the rules we put in place have to be obeyed to maintain the discipline that places our approaches to war above theirs.

It would make your hair curl, but like most of us oldies we don't care to talk about such things. "
You have made several references to experiencing WWII and I know you've mentioned being in the RAF but did you actually serve during the war?

You’re very much mistaken. That is not my ‘default’ position. I have simply explained to you the thinking behind the jihadist philosophy and their justification for their actions. Clearly you still don’t understand it - and I doubt you ever will. Conversations with you on the subject are such that I'm past caring.

in R v Hussain - the case where the judge discharged the jury after concerted attempts to influence them and went on to try the case himself: he says
"They went to a local mosque to pray at 2 pm. When
they got back into the car they occupied the same seats. Whilst they were driving around, Ubaidullah says he asked “what do we do if there are elderly people or children in the car?” He says the front seat passenger said “frack them, we don’t care.” "
which kinda implies they do

I heard too the anthropologist whohad been embedded into the Marines - he had even done the 8 mo training
and I thought he just wanted his 15 m of fame
( training together - work together - cohesive -strong in-group loyalty - no loyalty or feeling to the people they were shooting) all of which I found predictable and expected

yeah I posted the arith earlier on today and came up with 94
it is possivle I think for s/o to be 16 and join up in 1945 so the lastest to be born is 1929 ( technically called a 'terminus ante quem' - good bit of Latin there to irritatae everyone ) and that makes the youngest to be 88
Youngest tommy in the Great war was 12 apparently
but .... special circumstances - he lied and enlisted as a boy sailor

Thank you, but I don't need to be talked down to like an eight year old with personality issues.
I do understand the thinking behind Jihadists, contrary to your rather lofty view - and I reiterate my point - that because a seriously small proportion of psychopaths uses religion to justify their murders, does not reflect on the vast majority, so your point that Muslims grow up with an inbuilt superiority complex that let's them swerve the moral dilemma of murdering strangers is without foundation.
// Conversations with you on the subject are such that I'm past caring. //
Then please feel free not to give me the benefit of your opinion, especially couched in the superior terms you use.
