When I first saw the story, I thought so - but I now get what the artist was trying to do.

But it still seems pretty stupid. If you stopped and thought for a second, "How will this come across?" surely you wouldn't put the sign up?

I think it's ill judged , interestingly it was the only one from the project that caused comment.

In my view the apology suffices but then I am not offended.
It isn't offensive but it isn't 'clever' either.

Is this racist?

why put up this sign in first place?
Without context it is offensive and a ridiculous thing to do
This is really annoying

No Wolf, the Irish dance one isn't racist in my mind.
Naive of the artist, to say the least. I understand what he was trying to do, but he needs to relate to reality a bit more - some of the other signs were iffy as well - the fat-people one especially. An apology and a bit of growing-up suffices.
seems strange that the locals saw this one but not the one of, for instance, the shopping trolley. The other ones should have given it context.

I was wondering why anyone would think it a hate crime, though.
Well, he got what he wanted - publicity
He has yes, I've checked his other work out - some interesting stuff.
Just a sign of the times in my opinion

Please feel free to enlighten me, sp.
It's a skit on the signs you used to see in the 50s and 60s.

Warning: Children crossing/OAPs crossing, that sort of thing. I think it's funny.
he should cheerfully gone to prison as an arteest willing to erm die for this art .....

Just about everything is a hate crime. Just about everyone gets offended by anything even if it has no impact on them.

There should be no art and no comedy, there should be no discussion.

From hate crimes and cultural appropriation to safe spaces. We are losing our ability to function without a dictate on how we should feel, what we can say and see.

I will be (only just) in my grave when the mystopian society of ultra political correctness we are becoming takes over the asylum.
not offensive..but not necessary to single out an ethnic group either
i'm not impressed with his drawing skills, i thought it was a silhouette of robert mitchum in night of the hunter

Peter , don't worry about prison - he'll be glad to go when the ladies with shopping trolleys get him.
