A Conservative spokesman said: // "there needs to be a review of how the Electoral Commission's processes and requirements could be clarified or improved". // Translation: We are very miffed to have been caught out, and resent the record fine. The Electoral Commission is now on our hit list, and we will disarm it as soon as possible.

Yep, 12 Police Forces covering two dozen seats.
The fact that files have been passed to the CPS means that the Police at least believe the rules have been broken.
The Electoral Commission is expected to report soon. But there is a deadline. For any prosections to take place it must be within two years of the May 2015 vote.
Bottom line is, the Tories spent hundreds of thousands of pounds in key marginal seats, and the cost of that campaigning has never been declared. They claim it was an innocent mistake, but only a very naive person would believe that.

I'm not sure what its got to do with this affair TTT, but what "bent Mayor" ?
Lets be perfectly clear....if these allegations are proven in Court, the Tories could face a large number of by-Elections, in these marginal seats.....unprecedented in modern times. It would explain how they made such inroads into the West Country, as well as other places. That very slim Tory majority is starting to look very fragile indeed.
Watching CH4 News tonight, its apparent that taking on the job of Tory Leader has proven to be a poisoned chalice for Mrs May....her in-tray is like an "overflowing volcano", to paraphrase the chap on CH 4.

Tora,
The Oldham East and Saddleworth election had to be re-run 6 months after the General Election result because the Labour candidate fraudulently accused his Conservative rival of a of something that wasn't true.
And there have been numerous investigations into postal violations.
So Labour have been investigated many times. Bottom line: The Tories spent tens, hundreds of thoysands of pounds that didn't appear on any expenditure declarations.
I suspect the electorial Commission will bottle it, and say the rules need clarifying and the Tories will get away with it.

Sam,
The Electoral Commission is the Regulatory overseer of elections. They are there to make sure that the rules are adhered to. The fine seems to confirm that the rules were broken.
A police investigation is whether the breaking of the rules constitutes deliberate deception and if that resulted in the election being won by fraudulent means. If that were proven, then the result would be voided, and the contest would have to be re-run.
