I know of two kids from my primary school who, aged 5, tried to have sex after having sex education lessons. Thankfully, it's so rare that it's still talked about 40 years later.

Cloverjo...she's still alive. Her healthy son lived to age 40, and died of bone disease. She also had another son....much later!

I think that the five year old girl was an exception as most of the girls who get pregnant early are a little older.

I can't even imagine what it would do to such a young girl's body.

I hope things go well for this 11 year old - maybe she can continue her education and get a job, but she will need help from family.

Emmie....yes, of course, but if it can be proven who the father is and he is above the age of criminal responsibility that I think he should be charged.

Can one minor be charged with the Statutory rape of another minor in this country?
Anyway, let's hope her family gather around her and help in looking after her and the baby, hopefully so that she can go back and finish school. It doesn't mean her life has to be over. In 3rd world countries children are forced into wedlock at the same age and some die in childbirth. Thank goodness that in this country it is so rare for a 11 year old to be pregnant that we are all talking about it.

The law presumes that when a girl is under 13 she is not mature enough to consent to sex. So even if a 12-year-old girl willingly has intercourse, as far as the law is concerned, she has not "consented" to it because legally she is not able to.

(This concept is similar to the age of criminal intent, which assumes that children under 10 cannot commit crimes because they do not understand what crimes are.)

The implication of the rule is that anyone who has sex with a girl under 13 is committing what is termed "statutory rape". There is no defence to this charge - even if a boy says the girl was willing or that he thought she was older than she was, it would not matter.

Islay....according to the (American) link that was provided earlier by Emmie, wen dealing with a child as young as this, consent is immaterial, as the law normally says that the child cannot give consent, therefore it must be rape :::

In reality, the consent of the minor is irrelevant; minors are incapable of giving their consent as a matter of law. Thus, any sex act with a minor, whether willing or not, can be a statutory rape"

As I said, as far as I know we don't not have statutory rape as an offence in this country. Perhaps New Judge will come along and tel us why we don't.
