Reminds me of toddlers with a bottle or sippy cup.

Like many people on here we don't buy take away.
Well bgh, I never hold my breath for a tax drop as it's being collected from others. I suspect it just results in increased take to fritter away somewhere.

who got zapped and why......
Question Author
if your usual coffee comes in at say 2.50 adding 25p per cup makes that quite expensive in the long term.
i don't get takeaway coffee mostly because i don't like plastic/paper cups.
I buy the most expensive instant coffee available, because it's gorgeous, and works out at 9p per cup. Starbucks etc know where they can stick theirs.
The answer is simple and already in use both here and in the US. You buy a refillable cup.
Question Author
but isn't costa/Starbucks already expensive, without shoving on another 25p to each cup refillable or not.
hang on I had BA a while ago now it's gone! Is this site in the employ of the aforementioned outlets?

TTT
they zapped you i'm afraid.
I never buy takeaway coffee now I'm retired, but I would have found it hard to start the day without the double expresso I used buy by near the office. I would have been happy to pay a bit more for the cup, but of course that is not what they want.
There is a lot of holier-than-thou posts on here today !

In the last 24 hours, I have bought a cup of tea while waiting 2 hours at my Ford Dealership, and this afternoon, I bought another cup, while waiting to see my brother at the Hospital.

In neither occasion, did I fell remotely overly profligate with my money. In neither place was it possible to have the drinks in "proper" cups.

The answer to this problem is for the recycling industry to get its act together. It can't be rocket science to be able to recycle a simple thing like a hot drink container !
By the way, I never use Starbucks or Costapacket either, as they are a rip off.
Mikey - you had to BUY a cup of tea at your Ford dealership, and weren't you buying a NEW car? I get offered free drinks when I have my car in for service.
BHG..what difference does it make who paid for the fecking tea !

It still used a cup !
Just pointing out Mikey, that a decent dealership would have GIVEN you a drink if it had kept you waiting for 2 hours.
Question Author
we throw away according to the news, upwards of 25 billion
cups a year, that is a massive amount of landfill we are dumping our non recyclable cups in.
The recycling problem is because they have a plastic liner. The plastic liner needs to be separated from the paper cup before the paper can be recycled. There are very few recycling plants that can handle the separation process, so they get thrown away.
Starbuck's coffee is cheaper if (like me) you have one of their reusable take away cups.

I think you get 25p off. I probably drink 20 Starbuck's coffees in a week, so it saves me about £5.00

I do occasionally lose my reusable cup, and have to buy another one.
Why not charge 5p per cup like plastic bags?
