How Much Is Too Much To Pay For Uk Pride?
Is 490 million too much?
Apparently according to some here on AB there is a great deal of pride in holding a navy blue passport! But is 490 million too much?

Except – that if we were not leaving the new design would have to have, top line of the cover and page one inside “European Union”. Never has been necessary and now it certainly won’t be.
“We have to have new passports when we leave the EU,…”
Why is that, Naomi? As I have mentioned in other questions on this subject, the only reference to the EU in UK passports is on the front cover and the first page inside. The only reference is the words “European Union” at the top. There is no reason why existing passports cannot remain valid until they expire and no reason why the design of new passports issued after 2019 needs to have anything done other than those two words removed. Two minutes work, I would imagine.
However, if a new design is to be rolled out then it would make sense to issue passports that do not look like the homogenised Europap that we have issued with in recent years. All countries’ passports should look distinctive. One thing is for sure and that is that the size and shape will remain the same. These features were agreed internationally (i.e. beyond the EU) to facilitate them being read by machines.

[i]All countries’ passports should look distinctive[i]
it seems customary for them to do so. Most seem to have the name of the country on the cover, which distinguishes them from those of other countries. Even within the EU! And in the absence of 150 distinctive different colours, they'll have to stick with that.

Hi baldric- because you selected the bit in the headline that said they WILL come back but didn't mention that there was nothing in the article to substantiate it- the article is more cautious and says
" but could soon be coloured blue again" , the Tory person said "I am hoping we'll have new navy blue passports.' and the Home Office said "The Home Office said no decision had been made about the colour of the passport under the new contract.

//as The Nige commented in the heady days just after June
about £350m a week going back to the NHS
"o we shouldn't have said that .//
Peter P, for the millionth time. Nigel Farage never had anything to do with the £350m. Do stop spreading your fake news. (or no-one will believe you if you do tell the truth)
