Theresa Playing An Underhand Card

Could Theresa May be playing an extremely clever pro-Remain card?

Think of it this way - the big winners in this election are likely to be the Tories, as (let's be honest) - Labour are unelectable with Jerry in charge.

But aside from the Conservatives, who else is likely to do well?

The Lib Dems might see votes going to them from Remainers as they are more vocal in their calls for the UK to remain in the EU.

The biggest losers in this election are surely UKIP?

So, Theresa - who we know is a Remainer, calls a snap election to bolster her position, but at the same time, kill UKIP and send a 'soft Brexit' message to the country?

Is this possible?

She has called it because her majority is too small. That gives some of the more extreme types in her own party too much power over her. She wants a bigger majority so she can take the negotiations in the direction she wants rather than the direction that her own extremists would prefer. Plus, a clear mandate gives her a stronger negotiating hand with the EU, as they can't then claim she hasn't got one.
Smoke and mirrors. Skullduggery is afoot. I've always considered her as duplicitous. This is a handy device for de-brexiting the electorate. Not my fault guv, I respond to the majority. Yeah right.......
I think it's certain that the Lib Dems will receive new members.

One thing May doesn't get is that the Tories have always been indecisive, and it makes good business sense that they are. The problem could be removing the power of the whips if the majority is too high, the PM getting the carte blanche. Oppressive times ahead.
I think she is sick to her back teeth of all the squabbling despite referenda in both EU and Scottish independence...high time Government and the nation played ball and accept the democratic decision of the majority in these matters....I admire TM for her stance and her courage to do what is right by the people...
Well said minty! I agree with you.
One thing TM isn't is daft. She's out to kill three birds with one stone, the SNP, Labour and the Bremainers.
and I wish her every success in all 3 endeavours !
Me too!
this may be the shake up that Labour needs to sort its house out !

If that is true, it might just be daft.
a successful sweep of the board will assert her authority as the elected voice of the Nation and finally shut up the dissenters..hopefully the death knell for dear Nicola and her ego !
You're right there minty, her ego is bigger than she is! I get the impression she doesn't give a toss for what the electorate think, she just want's her own way, no matter what!
I'm looking forward to the results from Scotland. Will Miss Fishface hold on to her 56 seats? Something tells me not.
she no longer has the majority in Holyrood..hopefully the "bravehearters" that put her there will see sense now..given her track record since becoming FM.....NOT a glorious one !
An interesting thought SP but I suspect I know which box she put her cross in - most likely the same as Mr Corbyn did. And it was not remain.

But with Politics who knows? If however she goes 'soft' Brexit then labour (who I suspect will gain long term from this election) will win the next GE and she will be annihilated.
There isn't now, nor has there ever been anything "underhand" about Teresa May, she is intelligent and skilful and this is a clever move which will give her a much needed stronger position and will shut up the small but vociferous whiners she is having to put up with on a daily basis.

yup agree entirely Khandro
But what if Corbyn storms to victory? No, let's not go down that road!
gosh ..was that a pig I saw fly past then ??
The 'vociferous whiners' tho are likely to be the swivelling tendency of her party once these negotiations start.
She presumably banks on a larger majority which will make her less beholden to them
There's likely to be a lot of 'Brexitterness' once concessions start having to be made. And an election would be 5 years off not 3.
I don't want to have s go at Mrs May, as no PM is ever truly up front about the reasons for calling an early election, but the idea that this election is just about getting Remain folk inside is hogwash
