Could Theresa May be playing an extremely clever pro-Remain card?

Think of it this way - the big winners in this election are likely to be the Tories, as (let's be honest) - Labour are unelectable with Jerry in charge.

But aside from the Conservatives, who else is likely to do well?

The Lib Dems might see votes going to them from Remainers as they are more vocal in their calls for the UK to remain in the EU.

The biggest losers in this election are surely UKIP?

So, Theresa - who we know is a Remainer, calls a snap election to bolster her position, but at the same time, kill UKIP and send a 'soft Brexit' message to the country?

Is this possible?

No.

A bit to late for that.
UKIP get rolled in favour of Con Votes, Libs make a limited comeback by 6-8 seats but dwarfed by the steamhammer from the Tories, the interest being how many SNP seats are held on to.....Tories to have 6-10 north of the border?
Who said TM was ever a Remainer? I know she did, but she's a politician. Look at it from a politician's point of view. Holding one of the four great offices of state, and with the perceived wisdom of the time indicating that Remain was likely to win, it would have been political suicide for her to have publicly opposed her leader. She grudgingly gave support to Cameron. Did you notice how proactive she was in the Remain campaign? No, neither did I. You will be hard put to convince me that when the Brexit result was announced she didn't do a secret little jig, saying, "Now's my chance. Go for it, Tess, old gal. Cameron, you're toast!"
When the sleekit besom says there's no going back she's being sparing with the actualité.
There's always a way.

We could yet see sense prevail.
DTCwordfan. Agreed 100 per cent.
I very much doubt Theresa May is still following a remain ethos now that she is in power.
This is the Tories' chance to really grab Britain and I for one fear it, for the sake of our social support network. I will be voting as powerfully as I can against them. I'll wait and see who that is, but you can count me out of UKIP or any other closet racists.
I would not be surprised to see a mini Tory revival in Scotland. They have always had a strong presence, just not enough to tip the balance, and are well represented in Holyrood. Remember that in 1955 50% of Scottish MPs returned were Tory.
SP....but nobody needs to "kill" UKIP, as they are already dead in the water !
1997, Tories wiped out in Wales. 2017, Tories hold 20% of Welsh seats. Where Wales leads, Scotland may follow.
"Besom". Haven't heard that word since I was a child. It was my grandmother's favourite. Originally a broomstick it became a term for a recalcitrant, old woman. "That old besom next door..."

Here's the thing though...why call this election in the first place?

My first thought was that it's so that the Torres would have a clear mandate for Brexit, but that doesn't hold up to much scrutiny.
Politics SP, politics. She wants to stamp her own authority on parliament and stands or falls by her decision. Seriously, given her position and the state of the Opposition, wouldn't you be tempted?
No I think the idea is too conspiratorial TBH

I think politicians are more - s/o gives me money and I give them an honour/govt contract/ whatever

I think even - "I will help M ( middleman geddit ?) and M will help Briber and Briber will give me money" is too convoluted ....
I mean at work for thirty years

Plan A was usually on the lines "I get S ( slave, servus geddit) to do me good and there is no advantage for him whatsoever"
//Here's the thing though...why call this election in the first place? //

she thinks she can win ( as 3T would say 'endof' )
My Scottish grandma used to call a naughty (i.e. uncowed) little girl 'a wee besom'. Alas, that applied to me sometimes - I used the expression with mine occasionally. Carry on, just picking up on Douglas and Jackdaw.

OP - no, not possible.
Another term of abuse was, "Away with you, you old faggot", long before the term had any other connotations.
Just as AB was running out of arguments! Ed.....do you have connections?
"The biggest losers in this election are surely UKIP? "

Indubitably, the Tories have stolen their clothes.
