On a serious note, legalisation of cannabis is like the legalisation of prostitution, there are endless good reasons to do it, but it is a guaranteed political suicide so no-one (well no-one with a hope in hell of winning an election) would suggest it.

It will happen eventually. Tobacco and drug companies registered all the names that dope smokers use for the various varieties of weed as trade names back in the 1960s . It is effectively decriminalised now anyway. The police ignore small quantities of cannabis and concentrate on producers and class A drugs.
