...into St. Annes Square. I took my daughter and 10 yr old granddaughter. It was so quiet and very eerie. My granddaughter was upset by how silent it was and wanted to leave. As we were going, we passed an armed police officer, who asked my granddaughter if she was going shopping. Yes, she said; I'm going to spend my birthday money. He asked when her birthday was. Yesterday, she said. I was 10. He said how nice it was for her and gave her £5. Wasn't that very nice of him?

That's lovely, 10C....I've noticed the soldiers here are mixing and bantering with the crowds...especially the young children.....
And maybe the shocking cruelty of recent acts is making some folk a little kinder to each other.....x
Great
What a lovely man.
Smashing story :-)

What a lovely story x
Yes you're right 10, there's a great sadness around. What I've found comfort in is how everyone has rallied in one way another.
Aww how lovely...sometimes terrible and tragic atrocities bring out the best in people. Awful when you think that is what it takes. Brilliant gesture, great person to have done that.
He changed her memory from one of fear to a happy one. Well done him. I hope you got his name or number and will pass on his gesture to his superiors.
Agree Zacs, he obviously read her expression. She will remember that moment.
What a lovely story, and a good memory for your Granddaughter to have.
A nice touch indeed.
That's lovely 10CSt :-)
Very touching story. Thanks. St Ann's Square has seen some moving scenes this week.
What a good man, there are many still.
Hi 10,
just back from visiting St. Anne's Square. Once past the throng of the shoppers on the side streets, as you said, you enter the square and conversation if any is at a respectful low hush.
