Massive IT breakdown causing mass huge delays and disruption to passengers.
Although their systems has been prone to glitches for years, i read somewhere that BA despite advice to the contrary it would be a massively detrimental move to outsource their IT.
I read an article that said that talks were going on with TATA Consultancy (I am presuming part of the massive Indian conglomerate) to take over the work for substantially less than the costs of running the department with their own in-house staff.
I believe RBS ran their IT from India too when they had a massive technical failure a few years ago that was highly disruptive
Its all very good cutting costs but i would imagine corners were massively cut keep the contract to budget.
So If the BA IT contract was outsourced to india was it a disaster waiting to happen?

Last I read they were still blaming a power supply. Maybe someone should tell them about uninterruptible ones and back up supplies ?
jno and Mamylynne, it might surprise you to know that in the days before all the technology we have now, we still managed.

I work in science and it astounds me how many of those starting out in the field are incapable of: adding up without using a calculator, writing a report without grammatical and spelling errors, using a beam balance and the list goes on.

I don't have a problem with technology, so long as there are contingency plans.

As I stated earlier, they have lied blatantly. They originally said it was scheduled maintenance, now it turns out it was a power failure. The cost cutting is going to cost BA dear, compensation, fines and lost goodwill are going to far outweigh any savings made outsourcing.
BTW this embarrassment of a company shouldn't even be our national carrier anymore. They are effectively Spanish. Time to cut these fools loose. They may need a name change anytime soon, as the brand has become toxic.
Oh while we or at it, hand back the concordes you have stored away paid for by the tax payer and let some worthy company fly them again.
