Corbyn In Cambridge Tonight

Corbyn suddenly announces he's attending BBC election debate in Cambridge tonight, along with other party leaders. Great move by him. It will make May look seriously bad.

where as I think this whole US bunfight rubbish is, well rubbish, I do think the pygmies that value this sort of thing will mean it's bad for the PM. Good job the Opposition are in such a state that if TM turned into that Linda Blair off the exorcist she'd probably win. I think TM may well be ballsing this campaign up.

Doubt it. They're not all party leaders and Amber Rudd was already scheduled to attend representing the Conservatives.

JC (like him or not) is having a good week or two - making a much better fist of the campaign than was hoped/feared, whatever the attack dogs of the Tory Press try to make us think.

By contrast, TM's having a shockingly bad campaign - the concept that the permanently out-of-her-depth Rudd will be better is quite telling.

I tend to agree. Corbyn has nothing to lose. May, on the other hand has everything to lose. I cannot believe how she came out with the bit about the Winter Fuel Allowance, leading to speculation as to what other measures she may take against pensioners. Did she not have a spin doctor whispering in her ear that to alienate the grey vote would leave her dead in the water. If the Tories lose, which I suspect they won't, it will have been entirely down to her. I'm beginning to think that the Tory MPs backed the wrong horse; they might have been better sticking with Andrea Leadsom.

He has done well in this campaign though and has come over as calm, reasonable, polite and caring even though his 'costed' tax and spend plans have been shown to be deeply flawed, whereas TM has appeared frustrated and flustered at times

Danny....so why is May so frightened of appearing on the same platform as Corbyn ? Doesn't she realise how it will look to Joe Public ?

Mikey as I said they are both taking part in a debate on Friday..Just because Corbyn changes his mind on the day to attend does not mean that Mrs, May has to drop any arrangements she may have in order to attend.

No, you are quite right Danny....May can continue to refuse to debate with Corbyn, but Joe P will make his pwn mind up about the reason why. Its her choice.

It can't be her refusal to do an U-Turn though can it....after all, she has rather a lot of past form in that department, and one more U-Turn won't really make much difference ether way, will it ?

But even outwardly calm, reasonable, polite and caring people with an agenda have to eventually show their real colours to carry out that said agenda.

IF TM appears she will effectively have all the others ganging up on her as her opponents have so much common ground- anti austerity, spend a lot more money, tax anyone who earns more than an MP loads more, tackle tax avoidance (as if no-one has thought of trying it before), nationalise a few things, throw more money at the NHS, soft/no Brexit, fight for freedom of movement, untrue stories about nurses, teachers and doctors, going to food banks, exaggerated claims about child and pensioner poverty under the Tories, references to fox hunting....
It's going to be intersting to watch tonight to see if they do try to differentiate themselves from each other and try to get voters to switch from one to another, or whether they just waste their breath slagging off the Tories

Ellipsis....when it comes to recent U-Turns, May is comfortably ahead of Corbyn. May said less than 2 years ago, that she wasn't going to call an Election, but she did.

I can't see that whatever May has on tonight, it can't be put off to attend a live debate. The real reason that she won't appear on a the same platform as Corbyn tonight is because, as someone has already said, she has everything to lose.

One point that few if any AB members seem to realise is that Corbyn never intended to even try to be leader of the Labour party much less PM. He was put up up for the labour leadership as a joke that badly misfired. His ambition was to remain a backbencher who could take delight in taking on people such as Thatcher , at which he was arguably the best ever.

Eddie....what difference does that make ? I don't suppose Hague, IDS, or Howard thought they were going to lead the Tory Party, but they all did, albeit briefly.

We are where we are. Corbyn is making a much better stab at this than anybody ever thought, and at the moment he appears to be doing rather better than May.

I ask AB members to read this link carefully, it explains perfectly what Jeremy Corbyn is about and his values. How many people know for example that he refuses to own or drive a car and only has a motorbike license ?
