(1) No person shall, in the case of an election to which this section applies, publish before the poll is closed–
(a) any statement relating to the way in which voters have voted at the election where that statement is (or might reasonably be taken to be) based on information given by voters after they have voted, or
(b) any forecast as to the result of the election which is (or might reasonably be taken to be) based on information so given.
(2) This section applies to–
(a) any parliamentary election; and
(b) any local government election in England or Wales.*
(3) If a person acts in contravention of subsection (1) above, he shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months.
(4) In this section–
“forecast” includes estimate;
“publish” means make available to the public at large, or any section of the public, in whatever form and by whatever means;
and any reference to the result of an election is a reference to the result of the election either as a whole or so far as any particular candidate or candidates at the election is or are concerned.

It is unlikely to be representative but the fact remainsfolk have been asked to say how they voted whilst the polls are open still and that is fine but you cannot publish the results UNTIL polls have closed.
The ED could collect the figures still but not reveal them until after 10pm which would be fine.

// lol it was hardly an "exit" poll. Just an informal canvassing of a non-scientific cross section of the populace. //
I think it was called an exit poll - which having watched the Comey interview on tel would make it difficult to say - it isnt.
But thousands on AB might well have a go.
Comey was told by Loretta Swit the then attorney general NOT to calll the Clinton investigation on emails, an investigation but a 'matter' instead - so he did
and the press went ahead and called it the Clinton Investigation on criminal behaviour

Jeez, you mean AB could turn the election - now that's a flight of fantasy as much as JC becoming a Liberal.
Anyway, a more esoteric question for you....Shouldn't we do the same as the French and have a day of quiet for due contemplation, reflection and, hopefully, cementing in our own decision, before the election, nothing permitted about it in the media?

well, I wasn't going to say that, naomi, as it was pretty obvious......
waiting to see what mess they have with the Cornish counts as the site at Wadebridge that they use has been superceded by the county show, so the constituencies have to go back to local counts rather than all the economics, scale of operation, cost savings associated by grouping the seats together.
