Boys At Exeter Academy Wear Skirts In Uniform Protest

Why on earth shouldn't these boys school allow them to wear shorts in this very hot weather.
When I was younger, most boys of this age still wore shorts, so why is the Head teacher, being so ruddy obdurate ?

//When I was at school we were not allowed to wear 'Long Trousers' until we got to secondary school at age 12. Until then shorts were compulsory even in a freezing winter !//
Try 18! - there was a letter of protest from a Scots OB of the school in the school mag when they allowed the Upper 6th to wear long (grey) troos, complaining that the final year in shorts (blue ones) was essential to have an appropriate crop to wear under a kilt.

It's called discipline....it may appear to you to be stupid discipline but you are entitled to your opinion.
Obeying rules, particularly of that of a school club or what have you develops character, that of which I approve.
Anarchy would develop without rules and discipline and in my opinion it breeds s esprit de corps which I also think is important.
Poor devils, having to spend less than a week (British summer) with long trousers exposed to the trauma that one associates with S.A.S training.
The should ALL be sent home to stay until they decide to wear the school uniform e.g long trousers, or face expulsion.

These children aren't special, apart from them being prepared to make a stand. Everyone ought to have the option of shorts or skirts.
School uniform isn't something I approve of but since it exists, and the rules do too, then the rules ought to be applied by someone with the sense to be flexible and make exceptions when appropriate.
I don't know that being forced to do something unreasonable does more than create resentment. The girls are allowed a choice between trousers and skirts, there is no justification to prevent the boys being allowed the same.
