I just find it un imaginable now that I used to go to pubs and clubs with people smoking, get home stinking from head to toe. Gawd even in my office in the early days smokers had ash trays on their desks. Just delighted that we have put this behind us. Apparently 2 million have stopped since the ban, probably partially due to vaping but I do know that some that stopped because of the ban. Anyone here stop in 2007?

How do you go on with the more harmful diesel fumes?

Do you drive a diesel powered vehicle?

As well as the cost to the NHS:

Research published today by Action on Smoking and Health shows that local authorities in England face a bill of £760m a year, up from £600m in 2012, to help people with smoking-related illness stay in their own homes (domiciliary care). Individuals also face a bill of about £630 million to cover the cost of their own care

More people die in fires caused by smoking then any other source, 106,00 people die every year due to fire caused by smoking

Cost of smoking breaks to businesses every year in England is £5.8bn

Figures, please, about cost of excessive drinking to the government.

Don't forget that the vast majority of people who drink don't drink every day and dont' drink to excess. Many smokers are also drinkers

I can actually go into pubs now. Before I'd never be able to stay as it would cause me chest problems.

I'm quite happy with the ban...
filthy anti social habit..never have smoked...I had a ban in my house 30 years ago which included outdoors..everyone knew that if they came to visit it meant leaving fags behind...never caused a problem...

I jacked in smoking when the price went up to 3/6 (17.5p) for twenty.
Nobody smokes in my house either.
I gave up smoking when I was 25 and I am 64 now. I am convinced that had I not stopped all those years ago, I would not be here now. If I hadn't died, I would be spending at least £20 a day on cigarettes, some thing I just can't afford.

Like you Minty, I have had a smoking ban in my house for many years. But so few people that I know still smoke, its probably only a gesture.
I smoke, but if going to be in a car and owner is a non-smoker, I won't, going to a non-smokers house, I won't smoke either.
It's only polite.
I gave up smoking because I wanted to, if I had not had the op I would not have given up, I loved smoking but miss going into pubs and have a ciggie and a drink.
Quite right albs.
