One of the most famous sayings attributed to Abraham Lincoln is about deception: "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

While he has the backing of his military he'll be okay.
He does come across as a bit of a froot loop though so may not stay the course.
I wouldn like to think so but very much doubt it.
More like a few thousand more will be sent to the dungeons.
so he ends up looking like a Turkey......?
Not much Turkish Delight around it seems...
I really hope it is (the end for Erdogan). Turkey has been a bulwark between east and west and has succeeded for so many years.
Is he the crazy one?

The country has been unstable for a long time - maybe a new regime is needed.
I doubt it
^ depends how you define 'crazy'!

I would say the Korean leader more fits that adjective.

agchristie - the Northern Korea guy is indeed crazy. He almost makes Trump seem stable. I hope that he is dealt with my his own military before he causes a war.
Let's hope so. Trouble is so many Arab regimes are so dreadful one wonders what might come after him. Might Turkey slide into the Dark Age mentality of the country's neighbours. Where's the impetus for Turkey to become a truly secular, Westernised, democracy?

scooping; I think the real ambition of 'Führer' Erdogan, is not to form a modern democracy, but to re-introduce a full Islamic state like the old Ottoman Empire, with him as the supreme sultan, he doesn't really want to join Europe, he wants Europe to become a part of his caliphate. He is the most deranged and dangerous kid on the political block.
He has been allowed to get so far by the Germans who have huge business interests in Turkey and even they seem to be now having doubts.
Erdogan is the guy who wants to change the constitution so he can carry on ruling isn't he?
If he imprisons all those who oppose him there won't be much of a country left to preside over.
Question Author
alba; He not only wants to change it, he has changed it, in an extremely narrow margined and rigged election.
