My theory that Mrs May was appointed as PM just to try yet fail at leaving the EU looks more and more viable by the day!

kvalidir, I wish you and others would stop saying things like 'by voting leave when they didn't really understand the ramifications', when I voted leave clearly understanding what I was voting for. I don't like being told that I am somehow less intelligent than you are simply because I didn't vote the same way as you did. It's insulting as you can't judge me because you don't even know me! By the way, IF there was another referendum I would still vote leave!

For what it's worth, I think the likely consequences of Brexit will include breakup of the UK, collapsing living standards and very likely a considerable level of employment. In other words - a serious economic crisis, which is bad for everyone. But I don't think that Leave voters have voted for that because it's what they want to happen, I think they disagree with the idea that it will and actually think the country will prosper. So I'm not sure the vote represents a deliberate act of self-harm, even though I think it will prove highly destructive. But in any case I think the society of Britain will survive it (even if the political entity of the UK doesn't).
It's a bit hard for me to put into specifics what I think would happen if Brexit were to be somehow reversed now. It would certainly be less visible in the short term - I don't think the UK would break up, and there'd certainly be social unrest, but that would recede. I suppose what I think would happen is that the whole political culture of the UK - the culture of political engagement and, I suppose, basic belief in the idea of parliamentary democracy, would be permanently undermined and replaced fundamentally by cynicism. I'm not entirely sure what that would look like or how it would change this country, but once that kind of rot really sets in it is essentially impossible to remove. I think we'd have very, very dark days ahead of us in that instance.

jno, Opinion polls show an increasing majority now favour 'Remain'

There has been a majority for 'Remain' since the first opinion polls after the referendum!
I know opinion polls are not everything, but I think it says that the views of the general public are significantly different from those of most AB members.
Remember if the AB voting intention poll had been reflected in the general election UKIP would have over 40 MP's and the Tory's over 400!

Even a few Brexiters on AB have voiced the opinion that maybe there'll be a fudge of some sort, and that we won't be delivered what was promised.
For my part I think it might just be wishful thinking, but what I really hope is that people take practical considerations seriously. If it were to be shown that Brexit was indeed too damaging to our country, and to the EU for that matter, then why keep going in the same direction out of sheer bloody-mindedness?
The important word in that sentence is "if". I'm not sure what conditions are required to make Brexit no longer worth it. Perhaps, as TTT and others have suggested, even a serious economic crash as a result of Brexit might be "worth it" if at the end we were still out of the EU. So maybe we never get to this point, I don't know.
All I hope, though, is that the approach to Brexit is sensible and pragmatic: aim to deliver the will of the people, as far as possible, but be prepared to change direction if necessary.

Headlines in today's Mail On Sunday!!!! You don't need me to tell you how biased the Mail is towards Mrs May and the Conservatives!
If it were the Mirror you could dismiss it but the 'Wail', the tories most ardent supporter !

How long can it be before she has to go? What will be the effect on Brexit negotiations once she has gone?

most of them have. They are amazingly fragile. The slightest bump in the road and they're wailing about how enemies of the people are gathering their dark forces to deprive them of their precious Brexit.
It's really weird.

Kathyan, TTT etc etc etc who bewail the fact I mentioned a lot of people didn't know what they were voting for- not my words but from your own beloved Daily Wail ... they didn't, and if there was a revote the result now would be very different. http:// www.dai lymail. co.uk/s ciencet ech/art icle-36 57997/B ritain- s-Googl e-searc hes-hin t-peopl e-didn- t-know- voting- for.htm l
