But it is not the same thing, is it?
You are missing out one very important factor, the indigenous populations of those countries didn't give up their lands easily, no they put up a fight.
Unlike us, who are just sitting back and allowing our invaders to change our lands beyond recognition.

Those chosen to defend our lands at the start of WW2, (Dad's Army) only had bayonets on broom handles, not much more than the spears that you mentioned.
I would have thought the answer was obvious , They have come to believe that this is the land of milk & honey where everything is free. It is up to the powers that be to tighten up & show how wrong they are.
Most don't. Vast majoriry of refugees coming out of the middle east/north Africa go to countries in that region. The proportion coming to Europe is very small.
Those that do come here do it for all kinds of reasons. Because they know English, because they have family here (more common than you might think).
I'm all for a hard-headed logistical analysis as to how it is possible to house and process the migrants who come to Europe as there are surely limits to that which are currently being disproportionately shouldered by Italy, Greece and Germany. But this idea that they are all on the take and out to exploit the system never comes with any compelling evidence to back it up.
