If they were to get their wish for the whole council to resign, what then?

Morning mikey. "IMHO Mrs May should now appoint a Whitehall Team to take over every aspect of the Councils duties, and every Council Member should resign with immediate effect." Who would be willing to go on "any team" that would have to face the wrath of the residents in their present mood? I wouldn't......would you? The residents would only accept...

They are quite rightly angry about the situation and the way they are being treated. I am sure if you were unlucky enough to be in the same situation you would want answers and the situation sorted.
They have my 100% sympathy.

I do wonder though...how quickly could anyone act? That many people, that many accommodations to find.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that the council were at best inept. It is now coming out that they accepted tens of millions of £s from housing developers to allow 100% high end private housing rather than the mix of social housing and private sale that was specified .
I am tempted to use the word 'bribe' in regard to the payments to ignore the requirement to provide social housing !.
It would seem that the residents are not looking for sympathy but are looking for action and retribution, both indicating a marked degree of unrealistic expectations, not helped by calling the leader of the council a "murderer."
I agree with ummmm....."how quickly can people help?"
Eddie....that link is very interesting and might be a cause for investigation and concern, BUT....now is now and even if "affordable housing" had been instigated, Grenfell Towers would still have been "packed" on that fateful night.
IMHO the Council is inept and/or crooked from top to bottom.

The causes of this disaster will be found out by the Enquiry and the criminal investigation that is on-going.

But it was obvious in the first few days, that this Council was completely unable to act decisively and quickly. If it hadn't of been for the prompt actions of the local residents, and aid organisations like the Red Cross, even more degradation would have resulted.

The previous Leader and others hung on for 2 weeks until at last resigning. Mrs May has had to appoint a SWAT Team to take over some of the vital duties of the Council.

So, as others have pointed out, the residents are quite rightly angry and distrustful of the Council as it stands today.

IMHO Mrs May should now appoint a Whitehall Team to take over every aspect of the Councils duties, and every Council Member should resign with immediate effect.

And of course there is nothing Political in it at all, is there?

"Special Weapons and Tactics" . . . . Gosh, it's more serious than I thought.
I don't think they were inept at all.

It was a disaster. How many hotel rooms, community centres, vacant flats, can you get within days?

If I'd been that close to losing my life I think I'd be happy for any temp housing.

The residents would only accept administration by a team of left wing sympathisers whose main aim would be to destabilise the present government and i cannot see our prime Minister authorising that.

Yes and I agree with most of what has been said, but what are they actually asking for, the whole council to resign, but who would elect another council? From where would the candidates be chosen from?

Unfortunately no one can bring those lives back, and if a site could be found, new accommodation could not be built over night.

/// Earlier she had made an impassioned plea to the council for equal treatment for rich and poor in the affluent borough. ///

And where does this happen anywhere?
Morning Sqad !

I am not qualified to be on any Team, and neither, I suspect are you (!)

The issue remains that the Council has lost the trust of at least some of its residents. A neutral Team, of Civil Servants might go some way to address their concerns.
"A neutral Team, of Civil Servants might go some way to address their concerns."

LOL...yeah! right and I like your adjective....."neutral."
AOG....I may not be entirely right here but, as I understand it, if a Team was appointed to take over the Council duties, then that Team would stay in place as long as it were needed.

There are Council elections due next year.

ummmm

Your 09:14 answer came a close second in my BA award.
Sqad........why would a Team of Civil Servants not be neutral ? There is already a smaller Team working in the Borough.
mikey

"why would a Team of Civil Servants not be neutral ?"
It may start neutral, but it would only be accepted by the residents and modified until it was to their suiting e.g non white, working class and left wing.
Harsh words i realise.....but i feel.......true.
Sqad....I am not sure that rings completely true. I haven't heard of any problems with the current, smaller Team already working in the Borough.
mikey...O.K.....you may well be right.
Time will tell, but the residents will do themselves no favours by heckling the present leader and her team.
