Looks like much more of the license fee will be going on wages. An inevitable result of publicising individuals earnings?

Because it makes it a world class organisation producing, in my opinion, world class programmes. It does this rather successfully on some occasions e.g. Top Gear which it makes quite a profit on.
Suggesting it should become a 'niche' broadcaster would means its death which I believe would be very sad, but I do believe we're seeing the beginnings of this now. It never was a niche broadcaster, so why your suggesting it should be now is a bit strange. One could almost believe you objected to paying the license fee ;-).
I wonder how many over 75s volunteer to pay for a TV licence?

If it's not compulsory for everyone to have one by the time I reach 75 I won't be paying for one if the Beeb continue to pay the current level of salaries. The money would be better spent on better programmes.
Who decides what to pay such talents as Lineker and Shearer?

Perhaps he (I'm assuming he) should be sacked first?
Question Author
But the programmes won't be better with third rate presenters.
Alan Shearer is a 3rd rate pundit ... sends me to sleep.
Jobs like presenting such as MOTD could be put out to tender.

I will repeat that the BBC if they think their products are that good should become a subscription service.
@Zacs-Master......There are lots of capable folk who might be regarded as Third Rate but if given the chance would be first class presenters and do a really good job at a fraction of the price of folk such as Chris Evans on a fee of 2.2million pounds per. annum.

Incidentally a lot of the presenters on BBC are earning additional fees from After Dinner Speaking, and some of the amounts for a one hour's scripted talk can be more than a year's wages/salary for a hard working man/women.

It is my opinion that we should have a minimum wage along with a maximum one. Also there should be legislation to ensure that Women are paid the same as Men for identical work.

Your opinion is tantermount to socialist principles Hans. A slippery slope.
Gender pay equality in the entertainment industry is legendary. Male film stars outstrip their female costars all the time.

TV is run by mostly men and men have always been seen as the staple of everything.

I wonder when they have evened things out a bit more they will look at the pay and contracts of all the little people who work for the BBC?

At the lower end they are mostly on temporary minimum wage contracts and have no job security.

The little people are just a small talented but just because they are the ones making the 'stars' shine they are treated quite poorly.
Question Author
Where do you get your info that staff at the BBC are on temporary minimum wage contracts?
bringing back the generation game is another backward step too ..who evers idea that was should be fired .
@cassa333.....You are right to say,,,,"At the lower end they are mostly on temporary minimum wage contracts and have no job security".

It doesn't do the Camera Crew and Vision Mixers etc. any good to question the fees being paid to them if they wish to keep working.
However, the so called 'Stars' would Not shine without the folk who keep them in 'Focus on Camera'.

I know from a personal point of view.

Question Author
Can you substantiate your, and cassa' assertion about minimum wage contracts within the BBC?
Yes, Zacs-Master.... Providing you are hereby prepared to categorically say that you are in a in a position to prove otherwise.

Go on then.....
Did all these bright women not suss this before now? Did it come as a complete shock? What efforts did they previously make, not only for their own benefit for those who follow, to ensure pay levels were fair? Incredulous. Half these women report the news. Is the gender pay gap news to them?
Surely less ? First they need to reduce the men's salaries down to those of the women's; then bring them both down further into the realms of reasonableness.
@Zacs-Master....What are you saying...."Go on then".

If you are trying to play a game of 'Chess' with me. then it is your move next because I have moved and am seeking your assurance that you are in a position to counter anything I say.

Hans.
Question Author
Hans, you and cassa are claiming that some BBC staff are on minimum wage contracts. I'm not saying they aren't, I'm just asking you to expand on your personal knowledge or provide a link showing that they are. The burden of proof is always on the person making the original claim.
Why didn't they kick up a stink before now? Why didn't they talk to colleagues, male and female, and why didn't they talk to their agents/ unions? Next week they'll discover the world is round. Stupid and pathetic.
Zacs-Master...It would be unwise for me to pursue matters any further with you because to prove my case I could jeopardise matters for at least one member of my family.

Incidentally ,in law ,burden of proof can switch from one side to the other for a case to be proved.

Hans.
