So it emerges that the young man in question has a long criminal record, has had a couple of attempts made on his life and has been described as a 'lovable rogue'!
Why was he running away from the police if he had nothing to hide, sad that it is, I feel that if you live by the sword then you'll die by the sword, the police just can't win in this sort of situation.

I completely agree with the OP. I'm guessing that he was trying to swallow drugs.
Some hypocritical views right here.

Skinny guy, held in a choke hold by burly policeman who was then joined by another burly copper then sat on instead of being restrained and cuffed the way they're trained?

Would your views be the same if he wasn't the colour he is? If he was your son, nephew, friend of the family or neighor? If he was the son of one of your online friends here would you have said/felt the same?

The officers need/have to be sacked, taken to court and found guilty of manslaughter.
I'll let the investigation decide based on facts from those closer to the incident.
"I'm guessing that he was trying to swallow drugs."

So you didn't even see the footage or evidence that he had done anything wrong and "Guessed" what he was doing?

Hmm, you don't work for the police by any chance do you?
From talbots link..

"A spokesman for the Met Police said: ‘The man entered a shop in Kingsland Road, where he was seen to be trying to swallow an object.

‘The officer intervened and sought to prevent the man from harming himself, but he was then taken ill."

Poppycock and bs, I can't ever remember the first aid training saying that to clear a choking hazard we should headlock the subject stopping them breathing and then get another "helper" to sit on them or maybe that was only in the police edition under "How to explain a broken face, bones, teeth and bruises" with a simple "He fell down the stairs m'lud"

I heard on the Radio that he was seen to swallow something before being chased,

From the Link
///The IPCC has said it had received evidence that ‘indicates an object was removed from his throat at the scene’.///

Last paragraph @ 1901 = 'Complete Drivel'

As I said. I'm guessing. Have you read the OP, TA? I'm not sure what his colour has to do with it or why you mentioned it.
the police just can't win in this sort of situation

the police have done just fine; they will be cleared of everything as police always are. The man they sat on died.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: ‘The man entered a shop in Kingsland Road, where he was seen to be trying to swallow an object.
‘The officer intervened and sought to prevent the man from harming himself, but he was then taken ill.’
The IPCC reports the man became unwell and first aid was ‘provided by a police officer, police medic and paramedics’.

Thirdamigo,

\\Some hypocritical views right here.//

watch the footage you will see him put is hand to his mouth.

According to the news something was removed from his throat.

the policeman was trying to remove it.

Dave.
one less low life if you ask me.
I agree with Mamy here...lets wait for the investigation.

But is anybody seriously suggesting that this young man deserved to die, because he was running away from the Police, and that he had criminal record ?
no mikey but when low life drug dealers do get offed it's a bonus for the rest of us.
Tonyav,webbo,zacs,

Zacs said he was "Guessing" when the video and description blatantly show the man was attempting to swallow something so was a FACT

Yes the man had something in his throat, only because the police decided to choke him via a headlock instead of retrieve it
It's really hard to restrain people. Obviously the police and people working in certain hospitals are trained to it but someone kicking off doesn't always go to plan.

Although the restrainers can be heavy handed I have some sympathy for them.

When working in a hospital one of the patients had hepatitis and they used to cut themselves and attack staff with their blood. The police don't have the luxury of knowing the medical history or the frame of mind the person they are restraining could be in.

Thirdamigo, would YOU feel the same if this career criminal broke into your house and ransacked it, or assaulted you, your other half or one of your children, and who would you phone if such an event took place, correct, the POLICE!
I have little to no sympathy for people like this, no matter what colour, creed or religion, what goes around comes around!!
"The officer intervened and sought to prevent the man from harming himself, but he was then taken ill.’
The IPCC reports the man became unwell and first aid was ‘provided by a police officer, police medic and paramedics’"

Yes as we all know the police are extremely caring and instead of attempting to arrest and stop the dealer getting rid of the evidence as many do thus leading to 0 conviction inflaming his anger he obviously knew that swallowing drugs might cause this delightful young fellow some stomach discomfort so tried to throttle him believing that brute force on the windpipe was the best way to care for this gentleman but unfortunately killed him much to the surprise of the office and a few naive ab'ers who believe whatever the media feeds them.
Thirdamigo.

from sky news.

\\An investigation has been launched by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

It said it had obtained evidence "which indicates an object was removed from his throat at the scene".//

bbc news

\\In the footage, there is a struggle on the floor, and Mr Charles appears to put his hand to his mouth.//

\\"The IPCC has obtained evidence which indicates an object was removed from [Mr Charles's] throat at the scene," a spokesman said.//
