Well, quite so, Deskdiary, although then again transpeople would agree with you. You don't need to have surgery to be trans*, which is about what gender you identify as and not what sexual organs you were born with.
There are some transpeople who never get the surgery, either because it's too expensive or because they don't see a need personally to achieve their aim of living as their identified gender.
