Perhaps over the course of time more money can go towards research into Charlie's condition, but with only 16 souls in the world thought to suffer with it, and Charlie's variant being particularly rare, I think a special charity would need to be set up to raise money for such research.

Perhaps it's something the parents could consider, particularly as they are both unfortunate as to carry a defective gene.
