Personally I welcome it for the environmental reasons as well as the fact that they are mostly unnecessary. We need to get stricter with enforcing speed limits outside schools etc.

Folk should drive safely anyway. Away with them and those idiotic crawling speed limits as well.

Speed bumps need to go, they wrech suspensions of small cars, my daughter had to have no end of suspension parts replaced on her KA the garage sid it is normal if you live near them. Some of the bumbs are ridiculously high, the SLK you have to be real careful not to catch the spoilers and skirts, family up the road with a couple of Lambo's Ferraris and McLaren really struggle but it doesnt stop the speeders. The bumps are the ones that fit between the wheels of an ambulance meaning bikes, vans and pickups are largely unaffected whilst small cars squeeze between them and the pavement - very dangerous.
And I live near a school with a 20 mph limit!

My sister's garage does a roaring trade in fixing suspensions, so she should be saddened if they go - but she wants rid as well. I think they should go.
We have none at the entrances to our village and the speeding problem is bad. One thing that has worked is a sort of scarecrow. Someone had the bright idea of stuffing a set of navy overalls and attaching a 'head' with a peaked cap on it. A hi-vis waistcoat, and a cardboard tube covered with black plastic attached to the 'hand' completed the look and our 'speed-cop' is propped up in various places. It definitely works, I've seen drastic slowing as drivers spot 'him'. The other week he was peacefully mending something on the underneath of a parked car with a leg stuck out in the road!
A lot of us have also stuck '30' signs on our wheelie-bins, so when they are out for collection there is a wall of '30' reminders. We are trying to get the community speed gun. Lynda on the Archers has organised the same. Offending drivers are reported to the police, who issue a stern letter.
Why the 20 limit outside schools is enforced in the holidays is, however, beyond my ken.

They are just crap. Make 100% of drivers suffer for the sake of the ones that break the law in built up areas. They are comparable to potholes.
There are other, better traffic calming measures. And ultimately the problem will be solved with technology, if the self driving cars can figure out how to negotiate the redundant speed bumps, that is.
