meet aggression with aggression..no compromise..only way imo... no sensible discussion works.. no reasonable dialogue..allowing them to settle results in months of paperwork..visits...and always with destruction of property and huge clean up bill..notwithstanding the trouble caused to local business etc...
"The police/riot squad can't just wade into a site which has pregnant women, babies and toddlers. That's before you take into account the animals and the guns! " - why not? If the travellers care about their own then they would behave sensibly at the first approach. In reality it would be rare once the law is changed. Think it though ummmm, what's your solution then? do nothing I suppose!

In my mind it is impossible to define it in such a way that the legislation could not be used to 'remove' anyone who did not have a permanent non mobile home.
We would be able to force people off mobile home sites and holiday caravan parks, ban caravan and motor home owners from stopping overnight or even to rest for a while.
Laws once enacted get abused, the law that allowed the government to confiscate the passports of football hooligans to prevent them travelling to overseas matches has been abused. Non football supporters have been refused travel under it!

The council can't just wade into a site...they don't know who they are dealing with. Nor do the police. These people are often very violent and often own various arms. There are also lots of children.
