"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. Winston Churchill"

"Mr Churchill, are there too many immigrants coming to our shores?"

"Oh, yes."

What would winston have said about our current immigration crisis?

Not enough nurses from abroad do you mean?

Are you talking about legal or illegal immigration?
Er, what immigration crisis?

All of the research (rather than the xenophobia generated by the Daily Wail, etc) shows that immigration FUELS the British economy and that we'd actually benefit from far MORE immigration, NOT less.

Yes, immigration can lead to SHORT-TERM problems in, say, housing provision but the LONG-TERM benefits far outweigh such problems and we should be seeking to INCREASE immigration (as many Eastern European countries are now actively doing).

As an example, high levels of immigration totally revitalised the local economy of Boston but, because of the xenophobia generated by people who don't actually bother to study the statistics, people there stupidly voted in favour of Brexit:

In 1904 the Manchester Guardian published an impassion letter glorifying the benefits of asylum and condemning racism. Its author? A 29-year-old MP called Winston Churchill.

So maybe Winston's opinion the current state of things, would be a lot different to what you imagine they would be.
well if they did vote for brexit the immigrants themselves must also have voted brexit.
And another letter to The Times:

// The young Winston Churchill lent his weight to the immigrant cause. In 1904, he wrote a letter to the Times arguing that there was no good reason to abandon "the old tolerant and generous practice of free entry and asylum to which this country has so long adhered and from which it has so greatly gained". Elsewhere, he sneered at that "loathsome system of police interference" by which "the simple immigrant, the political refugee, the helpless and the poor may be harassed and hustled at the pleasure of petty officials". //
Sure, and in the early 50s he was moaning about the number of "coloured people" coming in to the country.

But since he's dead, who cares? A great hero for our country, but some of his views were of his time and not of today.
No country defends itself against immigrants - just invaders, that was what Mr Churchill was addressing.
He may well have welcomed them as his mother was an immigrant...I seem to recall that his father was english and riddled with VD!!!
Our "immigration crisis" is caused by the liberal left, started by Bliars aim to loose British Nationality for the good of the greet EU project.

Controlled immigration is without good for a country.
Uncontrolled immigration and immigration without integration is very bad.

We are all the product of immigration... good grief even successive monarchs were immigrants......People have been coming here for thousands of years.
YMB,

Unfortunately, net immigration increased more in the 5 years of the Conservative Government 2010-15, than in the previous 13 years of Labour.
So May as Home Secretary has a far worse record than Labour/Blair.
And since 2015, net immigration has got even worse. No wonder you are in denial.
Crisis. What crisis?
Wasn't WSC also one of the very early proponents of a United States of Europe?

I just wanted some replies to show someone who asked the question, I'm actually pro immigration, my friend anti immigration.
Immigration fuels little or nothing. The researchers must be ignoring the fact that for every immigrant appearing to fuel the economy there's a native on welfare that could be doing so instead, but isn't, and as a result is being a cost to the taxpayer. Part of the problem is probably down to wage/conditions being inadequate to attract labour from the local market so employers lacking any conscience short circuit the market by importing labour. But whatever the reasons, we are clearly not able to cope with the present level of population, lack of housing and all related services indicate that we have a population crisis, which means that we have a birthrate crisis and an immigration crisis, as causes.
I have no idea what Churchill would say. The public at the time seemed to think he'd proved to be a great war leader, but was lacking the ability to treat the people right during peacetime; and so opted not to elect him. Consequently his opinion of peacetime immigration issues don't carry much weight with me.
// He may well have welcomed them as his mother was an immigrant...I seem to recall that his father was english and riddled with VD!!!//

yes absolutely - Randolph Churchill was in the Fourth party
and got general paralysis of the insane ( tertiary syphilis) and was carted out of the House of Commons mid speech

( abandoned his speech - left the commons and was never seen again)
// his opinion of peacetime immigration issues don't carry much weight with me.//

his positiong on the common market as was
was to make grand speeches in favour of it when in opposition
and then when he came back to power - 1952-5
diddly squat about getting on board

[s/o almost asked]
Why are people so ashamed to be proud to be British? We are all humans!!
