Must admit Alba, when I read it I immediately though it may have been one of the big tankers passing through the Channel probably cleaning the hold, or tanks, and illegally flushing them straight into the sea.
another interesting point 237..
Wasn't there something on the news some months/years back about a load of lego being washed up on the shore somewhere?
I know lego doesn't usually induce stinging eyes etc, unless you stand on it, but what on earth are in these containers that are shipped across the world and slip off?
Chlorine's used in water treatment works. The treatment works near here has a siren that goes off in case of a chlorine leak and people who live within a 500m radius have to evacuate their houses. Maybe there was a leak from somewhere that wasn't noticed because it was the weekend and no staff where there.
Arky, am quite surprised that no-one thought that it might be illegal immigrants disguising themselves to get into Engerland.
(now, that would be silly!)
The Met Office scientists gave the best explanation , a freak of a weather condition called a 'temperature inversion' can often trap pollution that would otherwise simply disperse.
there you are, on a Sunday, minding your own business with family/friends and folk come along announcing we are evacuating the beach (and some are wearing breathing apparatus)
Beggars belief.
You'd think only in the world of Stephen King/Hitchcock and not in real life.
Very unpleasant experience granted, a fair few of the residents will have experienced similar in the past - where they are situated means it has happened before and no doubt will again.
