My Mother has had a fall, She is 88 years old and lives alone. She has always been independant but when she fell she broke both arms, . I live 100miles away so cannot go everyday and my husband has ill health so I cannot go and stay for any great length of time. The hospital arranged for carers to come in 3 times a day , to get her dressed in a morning , to make her dinner and to get her into her night clothes. This was fine because originally she only had one pot and the other strapped up so without too much detail she could manage going to the toilet alone. But today they have potted both arms!. As she lives alone this is quite awkward for her and does not seem right but I do not know who to talk to. I think she should be in a nursing home where someone could help her with her getting washed and toilet. Can anyone advise please.

Speak to your local Age Concern branch, they will be able to advise you where to get the help your mum needs.
An alternative is social work department, talk to a s,w,from the elderly care team.
If your mother is already receiving Care In the Home she should have been allocated a Social Worker in the Adult Care Department at her Local Social Services. Give them a ring and explain the situation, they should visit and reassess her needs.

What on Earth are people saying to have their answers removed on this thread ? maclaren is obviously distressed and worried about her poor mother.
They could be advertisers.

Sorry I can't add more help - Social Services sounds the best route.
