piggy banks
Isn't banning piggy banks to prevent offending muslims going a tad over the top ?
Will all our butchers' be foced to close and the muppets never allowed on tv again too ?

This whole PC thing has gone completely over the top once again. When will it ever end?
- This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed at home, this little piggy had roast beef & this little piggy had none!
- The Three Little Pigs & the Big Bad Wolfe
I shall continue to read stories about pigs for as long as I wish & nobody will force me to do otherwise - I will not be dictated to by any pumped up do gooders! Rant over.
You may all know this, but i rather like this little fact - the validity of the first part is beyond doubt but re the 18th century potter getting confused i can't be sure but it makes the FACT a little more interesting to add
The term piggy bank dates back to 15th century England. People would use a type of orange clay called pygg to make jars to hold loose change. In the 18th century a potter misunderstood an order and made a pygg jar look like a pig. The term stuck.
Thought it was a wind-up but I heard the PC brigade are banning Piglet, from Winnie the Pooh, in some places!!!!!! And no, it's not a wind-up! Can you believe it? The world has gone mad. I remember when they banned Tufty as he was considered middle-class white - HE WAS A FLIPPING SQUIRREL , FOR PITY'S SAKE!!!! I learned my Green Cross Code from Tufty!
This is a Daily Star story.
Piggy banks are not being banned they are being withdrawn by the Natwest Bank and the Halifax.
Whilst few muslims are going to be offended by piggy banks most wouldn't want an image of a pig in their house.
They're in business to appeal to the widest possible client base so I guess they just decided to drop them.
The Star of course has written it in the most inflamatory terms possible in order to outrage "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" and as always everybody falls into their bear trap!
Yawn!
Gawd I wish people would SAY that they were getting the story from Oooh Aaah Daily Star, then the rest of us would realise how much salt to take it with!
Still not sure why Natwest etc couldn't just make a range of animals. A Sheepy Bank etc (or is that too Welsh!?! :-p)
Thanks for the facts jake-the-peg! I was wondering about the enforcement of this new anti-piggy bank law that was being implied!!! That said, I obviously did fall for it a bit too! *blushes*
Hi tigga - Like you, I won't be giving up my bacon sarnies for anyone! I'd put more than two fingers up to the PC brigade, but remember, but we have to 'keep our traps shut' so as not to offend!
Jake - I don't read the Daily Star, but saw the heading in a couple of other national newspapers yesterday - in Sainsbury's. Also, you say "As always, everybody falls into their bear traps - yawn" - but we have to face up to it, this is real life & we are as usual giving in to every PC's whim!
jan-bug, I didn't see an earlier thread on this subject either, but adding to the PC of 'piggy banks', here's just another little tit-bit of what's to come:
