I think it would be cool for Hamilton to be knighted. I mean, David Jason has been knighted for rememebering words and then repeating those words in front of a camera.

And Ellen McArthur became a dame for sailing a boat.

And Kelly Holmes is now a dame for running.

I run all the time!

I ran for the bus last week.

Ha ha ha...Baldric finds me ‘tedious’.

I will chalk that one up as a win.
sp, those you've mentioned have all formed charitable trusts.
Absolutely not, what for? Obviously he has a skill for fast thinking and driving but there is a huge team involved in getting someone to an F1 championship. Off the top of my head I'd say it's only 5% driver and for that you become a Sir? No!
No way should L H be given a Knighthood or any other Honour . He is a disgrace to the UK. Avoiding taxes by part time living in Monte Carlo and a large Ranch he regards as his real home in Colorado.

Hans.
Had you down as more a Eurovision Song Contest man then a sports fan, SP.
Is there something particular about Lewis that has piqued your interest or are you a secret 'jock'?
Why should he? he get's paid for doing his job & the payment does not finish there does it.
If these sports people ( to name a few ) can be given knighthoods and damehoods -

Kelly Holmes
Jessica Ennis-Hill
Sebastian Coe ( lord )
Chris Hoy
Bradley Wiggins
Matthew Pinsent
Andy Murray
Ben Ainslie

Then i don't see why Lewis Hamilton , wasn't given one earlier or shouldn't be given one in the very near future .
Why? for driving a car, what about a surgeon saving a life, what about nurses saving Lives?
// Mind you, Jackie Stewart had to wait almost 30 years after retirement before he 'bent the knee'.//

and no one said "give him HIS p 45 !"

Come to think of it ( knee bending etc ) Nancy Reagan said she wouldnt bend here knew to the Queen of England ( received out of site of the cameras )

and wasnt Caspar Weinberger who helped us in the Falklands - knighted in private. ( not recognised in the states and presumably he wears his crown on his private estates )

Personally I hope Lewis H would stop behaving like a spoilt child and recognise that we the punters are responsible for the £30m he has collected
// Ha ha ha...Baldric finds me ‘tedious’.
I will chalk that one up as a win.//

groucho Marx ( das capital and all that ) said he would never join a club that elected him....
Great car and team. Is there really much difference between these guys? Knighthoods should be for individual achievements not team efforts.
khandro

//..Knighthoods should be for individual achievements not team efforts.//

By your criteria .
So , don't you think there is a team behind the individuals in my
list ?
he get's paid for doing his job

he gets paid for driving. It's the coming first that makes the difference, and coming first a lot more than other people do is worthy of note.
Nancy was a twit anyway.

Queen of England? so, who's that then?

Groucho said he'd never join a club which would have him as a member.
Good grief no
Bazille; Some on your list had trainers supporting them, (and some had a lot of dope!) but there can be no comparison between that and what goes behind winning a formula one championship.
KH
There are a lot more than just trainers involved with the individuals , mentioned .

Motor racing is a very technical sport .
That's the nature of the beast - cars racing , driven by individuals - that's what it is.

You can have the very best team around you in F1 - however at the end of the day , it's down to the individual driver to perform and get the best out of the car .
Not all can acheive that ( even in the best cars ).

Even in other walks of life where individuals are knighted - it's not just the effort of the individual - but their success is down to a team of people behind them .
Bazile - it's no good being the best driver in the world if your team lets you down (slow wheel changes ,bad tactics, poor car preparation etc). F1 is completely a team effort, so it's unfair to award the driver alone.
"It's the coming first that makes the difference"

Not in F1. It's getting the most points which decides the overall winner, not first place in individual races per se. LH has competed in 206 professional races, winning 62 (30%) of them.
