Nice ending for this poor woman. Perhaps the Police will think twice about
their boorish behaviour next time.

Are you suggesting all Police do things like this?

It is not clear why he did it so how can you say Police are boorish? Could simply be down to bad training or a single personal attitude.

For this case the right thing has happened though.
the sacking of one policeman and the demoting of his superior - quite right imo.

They didn't follow the law which they are/were supposed to uphold and to arrest a nurse for doing her job is disgraceful.
justice..a disgrace !
a lot of money; but police behaviour in this case was really stupid. You have to wonder what they were thinking.

I am suggesting nothing of the sort YMB.

But the local Police Force was at fault, which is why the arresting Officer has been sacked and his superior has been demoted.

To drag a nurse out of a Hospital, in handcuffs is completely over the top, even if he have been right, which he wasn't.

YMB...to answer your last question, what happened showed a lack of any common sense.
Mickey, you used the term 'the Police' insinuating all Police.

My mistake if I misread it.

YMB...no apologies needed !

Perhaps I didn't make myself entirely clear. But what this affair shows is a worryingly bullying demeanor in this Officer, and perhaps that may be more widespread. I am sure that not all Policemen behave as stupidly as this one has....that could also go for his superior.
Heaven help either of them if they ever require medical treatment.

Wasn't it her lawyer who released the coverage of what had happened to his/her client?

I think she should have been awarded more and a very public apology made.
I agree Mickey and for once he has been dealt with correctly - Removed from his post.
// Detective Jeff Payne (L) was fired and James Tracy, his watch commander, was demoted two ranks //

Good. It's nice that she got a load of money, but the above definitely needed to happen as well.
Right decision re the officers but $500,000 seems generous.
The officer was ordered to arrest her by his superior officer.
She appears to have 'won' her payout from the hospital, not the police.
'Alex Wubbels reached the monetary settlement with Salt Lake City and the University of Utah, her attorney said'

I took it that Salt Lake City employed the police, who paid some money and the hospital paid as they didn't defend their worker as best as they could/should have?

the very idea of one bad policeman in another country means that all p9oliceman are bad -
why says free-tee that is like saying one muslim is a terroristen and so all muslims are terrorists
and you know free-tee would NEVER say that ( at least once a day)
Appears to be the correct decision in this case.
One third of a million pounds.........nice work if you can get it.
Personally, I think the police can, or should be allowed to, take blood from people in hospital.
Maybe she won the money from the hospital because they gave her the wrong training/information.
Spice, the police turned up without a warrant to get the blood.
Nurse told them they couldn't get the blood as they didn't have lawful means, policeman grabbed her and then subsequently hand-cuffed her.
As agents of the law, they should have got it right first time imo.
