The EU clearly do not want to negotiate so we're off, well done Mrs May. So much for the "we'll never leave" brigade.

I think this is rather a lot more a message to MPs than to the EU.
It's a message across the board really isn't it.

One good thing is that it puts uncertainty to bed. We can now all move forward, together (Leavers, Remainers and the EU with or without a 'trade' deal) hopefully.
//BREXIT can still be undone by remainer politicians hell bent on going against the will of the people //

Democracy in action, just what we expect from the EU. That is exactly why many voted to go.

what I don't get is the EU approach, ie linear, we are not moving on until we get agreement on the first thing on our list. Normally sticking points are put to one side and agreement reached on things that are easier to reach an agreement on and pick up the more challenging stuff later. That way progress can be shown. The EU seem determined to stick to an unreasonable position at the exclusion of all else.
But that is yet another one of the reasons people voted to leave. The EU have a history of long drawn out negotiations. It's not just with us.
I didn't realise the Daily Express dealt with reality.
Does this effectively mean her request for a transition period has been declined?
Strong and stable Mrs. May , !!!
No Kromo, it means she is listening to the UK public not a bunch of Eurocrats.
If she were listening to the UK public then maybe she'd have taken the hint in June 2017 that "actually no, we don't want to give you a mandate to implement your version of Brexit"?
Question Author
not sure that was the message from the GE jim, many other factors are pertinent, worthy of it's own thread really.
I dont recvall the public saying that. You remainics maybe.

But YOU LOST.
! Consitant and irrelevant
!
anneask!
!!!
She went to the country asking for a majority to deliver Brexit. She lost the majority she got. Guess you could argue that's a rejection of her message, no?

For sure, there were a lot of other factors at play. May might have gone altogether, but for the SNP jumping on the second referendum train a couple of stops too early and pushing enough Scots to vote Tory to give May an extra dozen seats north of the border.

I think it means she’s, very sensibly, given up trying to talk to people whose philosophy is ‘Our way or no way’’. Good for her.
Kvalidir ,so the UK can still change its mind and remain in the EU, says the author of article 50, beginning to think this will happen.
Question Author
No she went to the country to reinforce here position, that back fired but the reasons where primarily other factors
- Huge own goals in the campaign, alienating the grey vote for example.
- labour promising students to abolish fees and loan reapayments
- massive polarisation of the electorate, TM got more votes than St Tony in 1997 but due to the massive polarisation between Blue and red they cancelled each other out.
if it was about brexit then she got a more actual votes than the last Cameron Victory so I'd say it was approval from the electorate but as the above factors demonstrate this was far from a "brexit election".
TTT do you ever actually read a link before you post it?
It actually says Mrs May has outlined plans to set the leave date by law. That is a long way from actually doing it.
At the moment her position as leader is so weak she virtually has to ask permission to go to the Loo. She is in no position to demand anything and MP's on both sides know it.
It's a weird gesture because it could also tie the UK into leaving before it's ready to do so. And -- sure -- Brexiters may say they just want to leave anyway, and are happy to take any short-term hit, but since that hit won't be so precisely targeted as just on those who don't mind, it seems very... undemocratic.

We're going to leave the EU. Let's get it right. And certainly, let's not herald a "new era of sovereignty" by refusing to allow any questions and scrutiny for how that process is to be started. A bill shouldn't automatically pass without any examination just because it has "BREXIT" in capital letters a few times.
