Why Is This A Gimmick?
Surely a finite date and clarity of when galvanises the effort made to sort things out??

If the deadline is left floating to later is a bit daft as far as I'm concerned.
Not because I think it is a Remainer ploy or anything like that. Just that without a deadline this bunch of numpties on both sides don't have a target to aim for.
For me 29/03/19 (my birthday by the way) is the "get your blooming fingers out and sort it and stop posturing" date. Give all these posturing Monkeys extra time and they will do procrastinate because they can.

if we do no deal talbot then clearly whatever applies to us can equally well apply to the EU. Thus if they put up barriers, tariffs etc so do we, they suffer the same. hence I say that it is in no ones interest so get Barmpot off the pot and lets move on. Jeez I can believe so many of you side with the enemy.
so the remaining members are going to double their contributions talbot?? Good luck with that and even if they do they'll be considerably poorer not richer and the unelected Eurocrats will have a fat wedge to parse up the wall, while the workers suffer but hey that's socialism! wonderful!. Junk face can build a new empire with that lot.
Well good for them Talbot.
If we stay we would be paying a much larger amount than we are now. Or do you think the other countries would say... OK UK, we are going to up each of our national contributions to generate a further €140billion but you don't have to contribute to that. ??
Germany, France and a couple of the other big net contributors will be footing the bulk of that and any extra the poorer country's pay they will get back in subsidies of some description.

If we leave with no deal, we will have to publish our tariffs. The most likely scenario is that we keep our existing tariffs (the EU ones, and just write UK instead on the top of the sheet). If we try to meddle with the tariffs, it will take years, if not decades to renegotiate, and UK exporters will suffer.
“The much more important issue is under what terms we will leave.”
No it isn’t. The important thing is that we leave utterly and completely - and swiftly - and do not suffer in any way for a moment longer than is necessary from the pernicious influence of that wretched organisation and its equally obnoxious institutions. Anything else is secondary.
“…it means that if negotiations are not complete by that date, then we will crash out of the EU with nothing to replace it. The ‘No Deal’ scenario.”
There should be no “crashing out”. Government and business will have had two years and nine months to prepare themselves for the “crash”. More than enough time. Nothing happened for almost a year so they’ve some catching up to do. No replacement is necessary.
“If it is not etched in stone, then we leave ourselves wriggle room, where we can carry on seeking a deal after 29.3.19 if both parties agree.”
Until when, exactly? 2020? 2025? It has been proved time after time (and not simply associated with Brexit) that one cannot “negotiate” with the EU. The word is not in their vocabulary. The current “negotiations” are all about the EU extracting as much of the UK’s dosh as possible. Nothing else matters to them as they are boracic without it. If their demands are acceded to (which they must be before trade and other matters can be discussed) there is absolutely no guarantee that any deal will eventually be struck let alone adhered to. The last time a “deal” was struck between the EU and the UK Prime Minister Blair agreed to forfeit some of the “rebate” which Mrs Thatcher had secured (which was secured because the UK gained very little from the Common Agricultural Policy). in return the EU agreed to reform of the CAP. The rebate was forfeited and – guess what – the CAP remains to this day unchanged. Like I said, the UK's money is all that matters.
Delaying beyond 2019 is simply prevarication for no reason. Business must do what it should always do - hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Personally I believe that “no deal” is in fact the best and the sooner that is realised the better for all concerned.

I'm just telling you what Antonio Tajani has said. "EU needs twice as much money"
