Haha bound to happen. The health evangelists have moved on to the ones who like a tipple now. No mileage left in the fag lark anymore. Won't be long before you have to stand on the pavement to have a gargle. :))
You'll soon have to take out a mortgage to buy a bottle of Buckie's.
Bet the off licences and supermarkets just south of the Scottish border are rubbing their hands with glee
You can put it up to whatever you want but people will still buy it.
Can anyone remember saying .. " If it goes up to 50p a pint, I am packing it in"
I can .... last week I paid £5.20 for a pint of Guinness.

If it goes up to up to £6 a pint I am packing it in .. promise !
I'm the same. When ciggies went up to 44p for 20 I vowed that if they ever reached 50p I would pack in. They are now over £10 per packet and I'm still paying.
it's expensive as it is already, pub prices need to come down, not go up
pubs cannot compete with 2 or 3 for one deals either on packs of 4 or cases of beer, im not a wine drinker persay so i cannot comment.
I'm so glad I've never smoked, apart from behind the bicycle sheds coughing and spluttering, at Middle School.....saved myself a fortune.
Pub prices will be largely unaffected. This is aimed at cheap, strong supermarket booze.
All drink promotions were banned in Sturgeonland long ago.
No happy hours, no twofers in the shops, all to extend the lives of those who are already better off dead for a few weeks or months.

Morrisons and Aldi in Berwick will be clearing space for more stacks of happiness while those of us further north will just sigh and wait for the next election when we can install some less zealous health freaks than the present rabble.
As a silver lining, there was chat about repealing the law if the desired effects weren't forthcoming.
I'm quite happy to say that regardless of reality, the liars and cheats who pretend to govern us will fiddle the figures and never allow that to happen.
Sherbet??? that is a Taxi ! Sherbet Dab =Cab
Do you mean a Cuff ? Cuff Link =Drink ?
Your slang is a bit Peter. TTT
Just the thin end of the wedge Jackdaw. Once the priggish zealots who ran the ciggie demonization campaign get a hook on it they will be all over it like rash. They are desperate for something to do again...... craving I would think. Just like the attention addicts they are. :))
And he complains about people using the expression "Road Tax" which, I suspect, everybody on here understands.
Don't get your hopes up. I wouldn't be surprised if England followed suit.
Sherbet is not rhyming slang. It is a NE (and obviously Scottish) term for a drink, usually beer.

"Shall we nip out for a couple of sherbets?"
Clearly from the link I'm wrong.
Ah! so TTT is bilingual - he speaks NE and Cockney.
Everybody knows that a "sherbert" is an alcoholic drink. The most popular explanation is "sherbert dip - sip"
There's also some chat about it being a Turkish word meaning a fruit drink, who knows.

Nowt to do with taxis except that in the land of the feral haggis you can't drive if you've walked past a pub with an open door and taken a deep breath.

Sturgeon hates us and for a great number the feeling is mutual.
