All around me they’re tearing down 60’s high risers and replacing them with small modern mini housing estates, should we start building up again? Not in the same 60’s style but maybe mega high risers a mile high like a pyramid with built in shopping malls,l Ext? Essentials mini cities?

I make it less than a million over three years.

No, very far from it. But, e.g. the young mums here are completely isolated if they do not have transport. There are no support groups or anything. They cannot go shopping, to the doctors, hairdressers or anywhere if they don't have their own transport. The ones whose children are at school need a car to get to their jobs. There really is no option. There are well-under 150 households here - I repeat, no jobs, no transport, no shop. I only know of 3 households(of more than 1 person) which only has one car.
New Judge, I didn't expect anyone least of all you to take my comment about 'magic disappearing immigrants' seriously.
It was based on my experience at my Muslim run corner shop on the morning after the referendum. Where as I have said before, a group of cheering, and clapping single mums were telling the shop keeper, ''we are getting out of Europe so all you immigrants will have to go home''
That story unfortunately is 100% true, I did not make it up or imagine it, I only wish I had imagined it. I was ashamed to be British.
It is also true that out of the 12 people who voted leave and that I asked why they voted as they did, 8 out of 12 said '' To get rid of the *** immigrants. 2 said '' cause I hate that bast*** Cameron'' and 2 said ''because it was bloody Thatcher wot got us in it''

“Your stats assume immortality, no migration”
No they don’t. My stats simply compare the number of net additions to the housing stock and the net migration figures. On top of net migration there is “natural” population growth from those already here (which takes account of mortality). If about 85% of the increase in housing stock is consumed by net migration that doesn’t leave much for natural population growth.
On a broader note, it is preposterous to suggest that an influx of some 300,000 people per year, year in year out, would have no effect on the housing situation in the UK.

That's remarkably accurate and well remembered.....hmmmm.
If there isn't already one I think somebody should invent a variation of Godwin's Law which states, something along the lines of, 'How quickly in any thread will Thatcher get blamed for something'

To those who suggest I am mistaken.
I can assure you all that I DID NOT mishear or make it up. I was so astounded and ashamed to hear people speaking like that it will live with me for ever. Even worse the ringleader of the mob of Mums, who all had small preschool children with them, then asked the Muslim shopkeeper for cigarettes on credit until benefit day. He happily agreed to this and handed her a packet of 20.
Also the previous day when I went to vote in the referendum there was a long queue. Most in the queue were elderly and they were all talking amongst themselves about how they were going to vote. They all agreed that ''The only way to get rid of the effing immigrants is to get out of Europe '' and that they were going to vote Leave because of this.

Naomi....I have told this story before but ....
2 years ago, I met a chap in Merthyr Tydfil, a well known unemployment black spot.
One youngish chap told me that he had been out of work for years, despite a very large meat-packing plant less than 3 miles away, that were taking on taking on staff.
He told me that he couldn't get a get a job "coz of all the Poles" living locally, most of which work in the meat-packing plant, "taking all the jobs"
I asked him if he had any Polish friends, and it was if I had broke wind in Chapel.
"Polish friends !........why would I want any Polish friends ?" "
I replied that perhaps, if he did, he could ask them if there were any vacancies where THEY worked.
