// That's no great loss, look who made the cover in 1938. //

that's nothing - in 1936 it was Laval ( prime minister of France - for his reflationary and emplyment policies) - the only Time Person of the year to be shot for Treason !
also collaborated and was shot in oct 1946 I think
You and Joan could duet, NJ..... ;-) .... x
Who is Joan?
She's a popular singer m'lud, along the same lines as the 'beat combo' from earlier times. :-)
NJ

Out of interest...have you heard of Madonna?
I would never have thought of TIME magazine as a second rate American rag. But I'll have to assume NJ knows best as he's so very familiar with it.
Hah! Joan Baez rapping...love it :-)
Could have been worse. It could have been Hilary Clinton. I mean, the abuse she was subject to went on for years, in full view of the press and the watching world and no one was at all concerned. Ever likely have a face like a melted wellie. (^_*)
"...have you heard of Madonna?"

Unfortunately yes. Even some of the better newspapers have carried articles about her. Quite why I don't know because I didn't read them. Although I have heard of her, fortunately I have not heard her.
NJ, surely you can't be unaware of the rather long history of surnames becoming given names? Very common among Scots, in particular, and not invented by Americans just to annoy you.
NJ

Interesting.
"NJ, surely you can't be unaware of the rather long history of surnames becoming given names?"

Can't say that I've noticed it as a habit, as such. Whenever I've encountered it I've simply assumed the parents were having an enduring laugh at their offspring's expense.
If the Yanks take up the Scottish habit of giving their darlings surnames as first names, will we see lots of boys called Trump and girls called Bush?
We have Clints already :))
Nice one Togo :-)
Made myself laugh with that Youngmafbog. (^_*)
sp: "Out of interest...have you heard of Madonna? " - of course, he's that cheating argy tawt who hand balled a goal past Shilton in 1986.
No doubt whilst fired up on Columbian marching powder, TTT.
