I really dont see the problem with this. Cameron was slated, rightly, for not preparing for all outcomes.

What most of the scoffing liberals and Remoaners still dont seem to grasp is that we cannot control the outcome of talks, the EU MUST agree - all 26 Countries. It is unlikely to happen so it makes sense to put in place preparations for, what I see, will be the inevitable outcome since BArnier, Junket & Co are hell bent on punishing the UK to having the tenacity to want to leave their cosy little dictatorship.
I think you mean 'temerity' rather than 'tenacity'.
//What's wrong with it is that it has a remit directly overlapping with an existing ministry and its very existence would imply that the existing Brexit administration (which is already consuming all this government's energy) is not up to the job. //

Rubbish.

We cannot control the outcome. Having a separate gently looking at a total no deal is the best way to deal with it. Those attempting to do a deal will not have the time (and it could be a conflict of interest) to do so.

//May and her government are useless. //
In some regards I would agree with you, however on Brexit talks perhaps you can enlighten me how May and her Government can overcome Barnier and Junkers desire to punish the UK for leaving?
I did Jack, well spotted.

They can't. Which is, frankly, why this was a crap idea in the first place.

And yes, taking the existing remit of the Brexit department and giving half of it to someone else pretty much directly suggests that the current Brexit minister is not up to it.
The existing department will be focused on making a deal. It's not unreasonable to ringfence some resource for the scenario where the EU team fails to see that they are trying to force the unacceptable.
They should ask Farage if he'd like to guest head that part though.
It seems a reasonable thing to do.

If the 'no deal' scenario were to actually happen with nothing done in advance to prepare for it, the same people criticising this would undoubtedly be whining about May's ridiculous lack of foresight.
new Party Chair for Conservatives Brandon Lewis, confess not heard of him before.

It seems the Minister for a No Deal has been shelved, or I have missed it.
The day seems to have been a shambles, two ministers resigning, Hunt refusing to go, announcing Grayling as Chairman and then he wasn’t.
God help us.
The minister for a No Deal will be a junior rank appointment, not a cabinet one. These should come tomorrow.

Thanks for that JD.
a junior appointment for the most likely outcome? Great.
What I meant was that it is likely that he/she will be a minister of state rather than a secretary of state in the cabinet. The person appointed will be assigned to David Davis' department.
