No argument there - but that is not the situation we are discussing is it?
Your scenario is completely different, and had the footballer attacked a stranger in the street, the outcome would hopefully have been different - but he didn't, so that's not the discussion we are having.

To return to the OP - I don't believe that 'naming and shaming' is appropriate for anyone in a case like this.
If the man is found not guilty, he remains tainted by the fact that he as accused in the first place, and the notion that false accusers should be exposed to ridicule will simply encourage more victims not to report their assault for fear of being ridiculed.
Any woman who brings a charge like this is entitled to be believed, and for due process to investigate thoroughly.

The lady in question believed she had been raped - there is no evidence to say she had or had not - the prosecution has been slammed for not providing enough evidence.

Sounds like my late mother is posting here, the element of a 'not guilty' verdict meaning 'got off with it' has reared it's head. In the English courts there are Guilty and Not Guilty verdicts when a case comes to trial, the accused has the right to consider themselves innocent after a NG verdict, there will be enough people who still consider them guilty when it suits their agenda. Next morning regret is not rape.

She may also have done the same thing before. While she may not have gone to the police on those occasions, she may well have already destroyed the reputation of several other lower profile men. Maybe she was too drunk the other times to remember anything. Other men may have come forward to confirm they were also subjected to similar scenarios had her name been published.
There are women who prey on men like that. I know of a case where a woman crawled into a guy's bed while he was intoxicated and had sex. He barely remembers anything but was lumbered with child support for the next eighteen years.
How far do you think he would get having her charged with engaging in sexual intercourse without consent? He was certainly too intoxicated to give any consent. Men who have been raped suffer alone because nobody believes them, least of all the law.
You think I sound a bit extreme? Well having been sexually assaulted by two women it does bring up some issues for me. If you haven't been there then you have no idea what it is like.
