It is almost impossible to buy fruit and veg by the kg as everything is wrapped in plastic.... Like you Emmie I mainly shop online - I order veg in small amounts, 2 baking pots, 3 carrots, one leek etc.
Sometimes they come in a brown paper carrier which a barcode added to one of each and other weeks they all have their own plastic bags, seems to depend on the whim of the packer.
