I am quite frankly appalled at the pathetic sentence that was handed down to this vicious person. He should never be allowed to have an animal again in his life never mind a 4 year ban and 4 months prison, it is unduly lenient

You do wonder about the logic of a four year ban. I mean is it likely that anyone capable of beating a dog unconscious and throwing it into a road is EVER going to be a fit person to keep an animal?

Email your MP via the link here. It might help to get the proposed changed to legislation pushed through faster:
http://notfunny.battersea.org.uk/

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/sentences-for-animal-cruelty-to-increase-tenfold-to-five-years
In a previous life I was a community service supervisor (probation service) There was a guy who was doing 240hrs for tying a brick to a puppy's neck and throwing it in the local pond. It got free, so he kicked it to death. He also took his 10yr old son to a slaughter house and allowed him to kill a calf.
He was an absolute a/hole and I could have gleefully throttled him. I later looked at his file and noticed he'd got previous for child abuse. They say it's quite common for animal and child cruelty to be linked.
It is, I've heard that many times.
As I have had to point out many times , Judges and magistrates DO NOT have the power make up the sentence off the top of their heads.
In Scotland as in the rest of the UK they MUST sentence according to the sentencing guidelines for the specific offence charged.
The maximum possible sentence for this offence is 6 months plus a fine
Animal cruelty (Revised 2017)
Animal Welfare Act 2006, s.4 (unnecessary suffering), s.8 (fighting etc), s.9 (breach of duty of person responsible for animal to ensure welfare)
Effective from: 24 April 2017
Triable only summarily
Maximum: Unlimited fine and/or 6 months
Offence range: Band A fine – 26 weeks’ custody
So he got near the maximum possible. If he had pleaded guilty that would have meant an automatic 1/3rd off the sentence, so 6 months becomes 4 months.
eddie quoting the current position doesn't make it right. If those are the figures then they need revision, upwards.
^ Then do something about it by writing to your MP and asking them to support an increase in the sentence guidelines. Saying on here that the sentence is too lenient is not going to get anything done.
yes, fair enough, I think almost all sentences are too lenient really so I'll do the lot at once!
Chico I clicked on your link I think this is for England in my opinion. It should be for the United kingdom,as I have said on here before we are nation of dog owners not nation of dog Lovers and I would gladly take the job of birching this verminious bas##rd
