While Hillsborough was a tragedy, and the cover up a national scandal, the industry it now spawns is extremely tiresome.

I am not a Liverpool supporter, but I think it is perfectly acceptable for LFC shirts to carry the 96. I would also be happy for the Mancs to have something on their shirts in memory of the air crash. It's a mark of respect for those who died and a gesture of solidarity with those that remain. It is not political, it is a human thing.

I’m not sure where, why Manchester shirts are mentioned but seriously? Why not also have the numbers of those killed and injured in the bombing?Start referencing every disaster on a football shirt like a mobile obituary? Numbers everywhere On their shirts from every crash, stabbing and shooting?
It’d just get ridiculous.

There is a world of difference when the deaths were specific to the club.
BTW. If anyone has been to Liverpool recently they will know it is a bright and vibrant city, clean and friendly. No you can't buy the Sun but then why would you want to anyway. I grew up in London, live in Birmingham and love Liverpool.

You'd have to have been living on the moon for the best part of 30 years not to have drawn an immediate inference about this top.
It's Liverpool-red, has a picture where a club-emblem would usually be, has a large number on the back.......all very football.
The number 96 'could' be coincidental BUT the 'Karma - what goes around comes back around' sounds more like an unpleasant reference/warning.

Of course it isn't coincidental, like I said it's a naff shirt, in poor taste. I think many will be offended by the message. I remember watching the Hillsborough disaster unfolding on tv, I can't imagine the fear and pain involved. What I have learned is the deaths traumatized a whole city, and the anger is still apparent today.

And shame on the Liverpool echos journalist who thought it was a good idea to name the shop in question and give out its address “The Sainsbury’s superstore on Rice Lane, Walton”
