What Gets My Goat
they (the government) have spent so much time money and resources into the attempted killing or accidental death of two Russians
yet on the streets of our country every day children and young adults are killing each other with little or no consequences leaving broken families
why can't we spend the same resources to protect our own ?

The thing is, the Russian business was not just a “normal” attempted murder (and I use the word “normal” just for comparison – there is nothing remotely normal about trying to kill someone). If what we are led to believe is true, this was an attempt to kill somebody who is living in the UK who is a political opponent of a foreign leader. More than that, the method chosen was just about the most hazardous and irresponsible way to try to kill a single person that could be imagined. Substances were used that can cause mass casualties, with just the merest contact being all that is necessary to prove fatal. It is foreign government dispatching assassins to kill their enemies here in the UK. It warrants all the attention all the agencies give it. If it gets your goat I’m pleased to say you might have to put up with it.
The idea that increased media coverage would see a decrease in "normal" slayings is probably incorrect. The people who go about knifing and shooting each other would probably welcome a bit of extra coverage on the six o'clock news. It would increase their street cred and they could post the footage on U-Tube.

perhaps it takes a longer time to get to the reasons why youngsters are killing one another, you have to get them early on, pre secondary school to teach them right from wrong and that carrying a knife can have fatal consequences.
stop shutting down youth clubs where youngsters can go, that would do with money right off the bat, and stop maybe some of these nasty killings.

johnny - You appear to be taking a popular position, which is actually not logical.
Under the terms of your OP, police neglect domestic crime to concentrate on this high-profile incident, therefore if they concentrated less on the high profile incident, they could concentrate more on domestic crime.
The failure of logic is simple - the police focus on both, it's just that the current high-profile incident is just that - high profile.
It's easy to be lured into the notion that something that gains more media exposure is receiving more attention because it is perceived to me 'more important', but this is not in fact the case.
Both are receiving appropriate attention from the government and the police, it's simply that one is more newsworthy than the other.
