Fireworks should be BANNED, Full Stop, they cause NOTHING but trouble, If the Goverment can't ban them completely, then they should be sold ONLY to Organised events Holders that have a Licence to use them, They are all too easy to buy, Im sickened by the recent news of the Barn Fire in Bury in which a Horse died, this fire was started by Thugs playing with Fireworks. The Barn from what I can gather was a Home for Neglected horses, one horse, the last horse out suffered extensive Burns, and died a day later, the other 4 or 5 horses are suffering terribly. I cannot and will NEVER understand why these dangerous items have never been banned to the Public , however pretty they may be they are a BIG DANGER to People and Animals , those Thugs that caused this unnecessary suffering should recieve the same treatment. Im disgusted .

Ok, so on the basis of the two out of the 3 links that work, none of them refers to "the kids" (implying all of them) "knowing full well that what they are buying are effectively legalised bombs".

I really do agree with the idea of banning them, but this steretyping and these sweeping generalisations only serve to weaken the arguement that I support. THAT'S why I question them.

The story about the people blowing up a (possibly already dead) dog, whilst a sad demonstration of how sick some people can be, concerns the ultimate arrest of a 19 year old. I thought much of the debate was about 16 year olds, and we all know what a big difference those 3 years makes. I agree that a story like that add to support the anti-easy-purchase arguement, and I hope that the culprits get a deservedly harsh penalty for this act of animal cruelty.

PS - The "kid" in question was a 19 year old adult, in the story linked to in post 21.

Vic - were you actually answering my request for clippings? If not, then I apologise, it must just have been unfortunate ordering of posts that that's how it appeared! :-)

So there you have it, Not only is it that Kids should NOT be able to get there hands on fireworks ADULTS 2 !!! These yobs who " Drove " past the scene of their cruel killing of a defenceless animal are obviously of Adult age, BAN FIREWORKS To the PUBLIC and SELL them ONLY to Organised Events , ONLY if they have LICENCE to Purchase them !!! They are a DANGER TO HUMANS AND ANIMALS . Time will Tell .
Hear hear!!! :-)
January-bug the origianal post says nothing about kids of 16. I think it is fireworks being bought by the public in general. You seem to imply because the yob who was arrested was 19 that didn't matter so much. The little dog in question could have been dead before it was mutilated by a firework but in some ways that makes it even worse. You make a reference to it as though its not very important. I don't suppose the owners give a damn how old the culprit was. Sorry but 16, 19 whatever age if they were banned from the public then all this suffering would stop. I am very passionate about animals and this just makes me so angry.

Well that wasn't what I meant at all. My point is that the links given by vic didn't refer to the point I was talking about.

I appreciate that this thread .......

oh, whatever.

I'm sorry to have caused offence. I'm sorry I made you angry too. I do also care about animals and I've only spoken in support of banning fireworks for the safety of humans and animals. I value a human's life higher than a dog's - if that makes me a bad person, then so be it, but it doesn't mean that I don't value the dog's life at all.

January_bug I think I may have read your post wrong for which I apologise. Having two dogs of my own this has outraged me so much I totally read your post wrong. I thought you were implying that because this lad was 19 that this was not an issue as he was not underaged. Sorry but I think I am digging a hole for myself now. Just ignore my last post pse.

Cool cool maggie! It does anger me too that people treat animals so badly- however old the people are!

My point was your point in fact... the point that Captainebay so simply repeated in his last post (and which you've now seen I wholehreatedly agree with!) - so we're all good! :-)

you don't seem to get the point 10clarion st. No one is saying that you should not celebrate bonfire night if that it was you choose to do only that they are organised which would make it as safe as possible for everyone. Just another point, how many children actually know why the fireworks are being let off other than its exciting to watch. Theres a lot of children probably dn't even know the history behind it. I don't care how many people complain about noisy dogs and unfortunately I can't do anything about careless dog owners, but mine do not disturb the neighbours with barking or cause distress to anyone else so why should they suffer. Thats a selfish attitude. Thats like saying if you own a house be prepared to get burgled.

lets face it, fireworks are pretty boring! wooooosh *bang* ahhhhhh! light the next one daddy-o! unless u go to an organized event which can b quite entertaining i really don't see the point as they are RUBBISH!!

and as for the eeidyots who play with fireworks, a taste of their own medicine wouldn't really go amiss! see how they smile with a lit firework up the jackzee! anyone who is happy to blow up a dog and/or film it isn't really going to be missed by society as a whole!

10ClarionSt ~ attention to Maggie and everyone else, Just ignore 10ClarionSt , they are wanting you to bite , they know your going to be offended, so if WE all ignore them they will go away ..they obviously thrive on others weaknesses, fortunatly for us we Love our Animals, this person obviously Loves no one but THEMSELVES !
exactly

J-Bug - to answer your question - the reason I put the links up, is because I saw your question and typed fireworks into google news. It came up with those links from 'sensible' sources. It also came up with links from The Sun & The Mirror.

Not having a go or anything, but you asked a question, I was curious too and googled it. I then posted it.

And no, I am not anyone else, never have been and never will be.

think this has gone off the starting point really of is blowing up a dog with fireworks denfensible? n i don't think anyone can really say it is! a lot of people who abuse animals as kiddies have gone on to abuse children in adult life n all.

This is my final reply on this subject. You got it right for once NOV 5th not Oct22nd or so till Nov 8th or more. One day a year knowing its coming pet owners can cope with even if they do not like it. Wild animals probably hate is as much as us anyone else. Yes they will be scared but within a couple of hours it would be over. Animals happy Firework lovers happy. Simple really

10ClarionSt, you have really gone off the Boil. You have MISSED the point completely, Most agree to Bonfire night being a tradition that should continue, what we disagree with is the SALE of Fireworks to the Public , Nov 5th should be kept at that day, NOT WEEKS before .. and then weeks AFTER, Novermber the 5th as you so rightly keep POINTING out !!! Keep it to Nov 5th .. As regards to Wild animals, any decent organisation would Hold an event where there would be no wild animals in the vicinity that would or could be harmed in anyway .Wild animals wont hang around areas where there are crowds of people , they would hide till we have gone, We are not hypocrites, we are just thinking of others instead of ourselves, like you obviously Do.
